Put some on damp paper in the airing cupboard and you’ll soon find out....

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a home schooling lesson!

Get her to count out 100 seed and set them on a tray with a damp towel under and over them, keep them damp for a week in the airing cupboard and come back to see how many have a sprout.

Maths & biology sorted for that week

I have sown 2yr old seed this year, germination was good. I tested it first in a dish covered with wet paper. Got kids to count out seed to work out TGW. I did have them cleaned but have sown off the heap before with no issues. Would probably depend on drill type and cleanliness of seed. You will have more broken or damaged seeds as well as admix in un-cleaned seeds so sowing rate might need adjustment. I’ve hand cleaned a bucket before now then weighed so I can work admix out when drilling off the heap.
