A few questions...

-Do people bother to clean if farm saving?
- (It absolutely didn't have pre harvest glyphosate) Would pre harvest Roundup affect germination?
- Does bean seed keep over year ok? I didn't get all the winters in and can now switch to spring cheaper.

I have kept seed over a year and it germinated perfectly well.
I don't know about roundup but I doubt it will affect it at all. The best way is to try a germination test at home.
I have an accord drill and it goes through that okay. It really depends how many pods are in the sample.

Will be drilled through and accord metering system
Getting it through the metering system is the easy part, getting it through the mushroom then down the pipes is the hard bit. Tried it last year on the Moore, & Freeflow on Barley and beans, a lot of blocked coulters. Tried undressed W Barley this year with the GD and its not pretty. Lesson learnt the hard way.

I have visions, probably a dream, of sitting on a free flow drill at 10km/he. Cassette covers off. Pokey stick in hand, keeping the seed flowing after not paying to have them cleaned.

Righto, I'll get it cleaned.
I'll have to have faith in the germination atm, as cleaner is arriving next week at where there stored. Only need 4 ton.

Sometimes, it depends & yes.

Cleaning only if it's dirty & depends on the drill. Pods are the worst, otherwise there's not much to come out.
Glyphosate would affect it if the beans weren't ripe when sprayed. You wouldn't do that, because it would be illegal anyway...
If it is kept cool and dry, it keeps well.

I test mine for ascochyta and stem nematode but have never had a problem. I get germination & TGW done too, if only to help with calculating seed rates. There's a but - it would be very expensive to test nematodes properly as you'd need to split a lot of beans. More than you would get in a sample bag, but it's good practice as stem nematode will cost you dearly.

PGRO are a good source of advice & they are good on the phone for a quick chat. It's what we pay our levy for.

Never cleaned or tested beans in the 25 years I have grown them. They are bagged as they come off the combine and go straight into the drill or fert spinner. If they are too dirty to drill or its too wet we spin them on and work them in with whatever suits the conditions on the day. Why make the job more complicated than it needs to be?

I do find as well that the more you handle our very dry beans the more damage you get. If I put the beans up three augers and through my cyclone cleaner they would take a hammering.

Getting a test done for Nemotodes and the other thing, seems sensible after speaking to agronomist.
Unsure on the cleaning now tbh, looks fairly clean.
