Thanks all I need now is a 30 Amp supply, a welder, a lathe and those commie B******s won't stop me

a quarter bolt will upgrade the leccy, simple, just make sure you unwind the extensin lead, i have not yet found a use for a congealed lump of copper and plastic

I'll never forget the dissapoinment when i bought a haynes manual back in the day to rebuild a gearbox out of a landrover 90, the immortal words, "Overhauling a gearbox is a difficult and involved job for the diy home mechanic...

We managed to do a 2A gearbox from the Haynes manual. Didn't last long though, the Perkins 4.203 conversion had just too much torque for it, kept snapping the layshaft in two.

The older Haynes Manuals had great stuff in them, not so much now I don't think.
Like the Fig Rolls and the Wagon Wheels, everything getting smaller.

Can you even get Fig Rolls any more???

I once used that idea to get a bearing race out of a Land Rover gearbox, I turned a piece of wood down on the lathe filled the hole with oil,then smacked the wood on the end, everything,including me got covered in oil, but lo and behold the race was lifted to the top of the housing. I seem to recall the idea was in a Haynes Manual.
