Beaters 2013/14 seaon

I'm told beating was a particular favourite of the perpetually unemployed, topping up their benefits. Whether there's been a crack down this year, I have no idea. I was talking to a fellow picker up - it's about £30, on the bigger shoots and a brace or two, or it was last year, and he would be losing £5 of that to tax.

Heard this before, go sign on for dole and then make out you're a full time beater, noone would be the wiser.

I'm in two syndicates - one pays £30 and you get a Bowl of soup and drinks at lunchtime, a beaters shoot and a shoot dinner once a season with all food and drink provided

The other shoot £25, and as much as you can eat and drink - it's a full 3 course meal, with Gins, and wine. Plus elevenses and afternoon tea.

Both shoots as many birds as you want

£34 and dinner on one big commercial shoot (45 250+ days a year) and £30 and all the pigeon shooting I can manage on my local shoot. Tax paid on both and beaters days on both.

"we do not pay but none off the shoots pay localy but they get a betters day and a lot of duck shooting"

That's very tight, I wouldn't do it for free, duck shooting or not (I'll will have done around 30 days by the end of the season.)

For me I guess it works out at £6ph before you put the beaters day into the equation , if I shoot 25 birds, base that on what the guns pay it equates to £1k , then base that on me having done 180 hrs it actually works out at £11.55 ph total, not bad ....so long as I get my 25 birds :)
