Or actually use (a good ) haulier .

Lorry is way more efficient and safe than ifor boxes behind pickups

and to the op , stop the FA and then be able stop the whinging about it and get on with the proper stock / field work.
The only livestock haulier left around here is Buxtons. They only run multi-deck artics. We can just about get them into our yard but dad can't at his. We ended up moving his last lot of stores to here by trailer so they could be loaded onto a Buxtons artic......

There’s also Neil Wilkinson. I use him quite a bit and he’s a great guy, always happy and prepared to drive his rigid body wagon into all kinds of tight spots to load my cattle 🙄

There are local one man bands that don't advertise its just a question of knowing of them , smaller vehicles as well, some with transit type boxes for Small lots.
As far as Ram buying, i used to think that travelling miles got something special but i found there's actually as good as any in the Country 20 / 25 miles around us.
Running pickups and trailers add considerably to costs, which a lot operators probably don't fully admit to and possibly don't like it being pointed out either .

I have never put my number on the licence.

Is making you apply for a new one another way to get a fee out of you?

Does your inspector look at the departure holding so he can work out the distance? Can't you just tell him nothing over 65 miles?

At a department inspection ( not Farm Assurance) we had not put the pickup number down, just wrote 'self' which was not enough. They had done their homework beforehand and although their workings got marks the answers were wrong as they had been through market movements which stated that several lots of fat lambs had been moved 24 hours later. I pointed out that they were all Wednesday dates and the sales were all Tuesdays so they must have spent overnight in a lairage and my dates were correct.
Had me scratching my head though.
As far as trailers are concerned, we have never used a haulier for over 10 years and will have saved thousands. Use a trailer every week around the farm from 4 separate handling areas as we have 2 public roads and safer and quicker to put stock in a trailer and straight into a field.
