Beef Cattle Studies

The study in Europe compared Charolais and Limousin bulls on concrete slats or rubber-covered slats, taken to about 700kg.

That isn't typical of beef feeding or housing conditions in the UK, but most competent farmers could have predicted the results which showed that cattle did better on rubber-covered slats and had fewer leg injuries.

This is a more detailed summary.

STUDY: Finds out that Hereford had 10 years of productive life while Angus and Simental had 8, Charolais had 7, Limousin had 6 and Blonde had 5. The study also finds that cows calved at first spring or summer had longer productive life than ones calved at autumn and winter. Cows had no assistance or a little assistane had longer productive life than cows received serious assistance.
