Beef Expo

Took my lad for a day out yesterday, very good show, thought one or two breed society's could have made more effort, Simmental stand was outstanding, and had some serious cattle on it, Piemontese looked very good cattle, fine boned(easy calving ?) and very good conformation, does anyone have any idea why this breed isn't more popular ? some bullocks on the Red Poll stand by a Blonde looked good old fashioned type cattle, a credit to the chap who owned them, thought the Hereford stand could have found some thicker black Hereford bullocks for their stand, must have been out of Holstiens, but as I say a very good show and everyone we spoke to made us feel very welcome(apart from the IAE stand where we were ignored, even though at least 4 chaps were stood around doing nothing)

Where was it ? . Regarding IAE PROBLEM , no one gives a sh!t these days, ive enquired about 10ks worth of cow mattress lately, one wet him self to tell me he has sold 700 to a local farm but couldn't be arsed to drive 70miles to see me, the other just dose nOT get back after i have chased him twice so fek the pair of them, i will be finding out who their bosses are though and letting them know their staff are USELESS tossers AS I WAS READY TO BUY, still am just wont be off either of these 2 company's.

Exactly my thoughts these days, I won’t chase anybody. If they can’t be bothered I will spend my money elsewhere.
I could elaborate on my thoughts of IAE but that would be off topic, though I had the great pleasure of calling out one of the IAE salesmen in front of his colleagues at the beef expo for his fecklessness when dealing with me last year, the excellent James Heath at Bateman got the order.
Great show I thought, pity about the weather for the outside exhibitors after the fortnight we have had.

Would have loved to go but a bad time of the year to have it. A month later would probably have been better when silage by would be cleared up everywhere

went to buy a Hilux last year, went twice and both times the man we needed to see was out so left number for him to ring us back, they never did, obviously didnt want best part of 30 grand from us so needless to say went and spent it elsewhere, maddening though!

Regarding the piemontese, don't know why they aren't more popular? We saw them at York beef expo, got a bull for the heifers and 2nd calvers, did exactly what they say on the tin, easy calving, good confirmation, muscling doesn't come out until 6-10 weeks old, sold first lot of calves at 5-7 months as stores average £820, that impressed we went and got 4 heifers, we'll be AI them this back end.

Just done the deal with James Heath, much keener than IAE whom had to be chased and then took an age to send designs. It just needs to come in the ridiculous 150 day window now.

Not wishing to take this off topic but Wikipedia (obviously best source of info available..) suggests they have less marbling and leaner meat than most breeds of cattle due to the genes involved with the double muscling. Whilst we're not being paid on eating quality it matters not a jot of course but I wonder if it does actually make a difference to the way they eat? How are they to handle; like the Lim and Blonde stereotype or generally good natured?

Thanks @AGN76 , as @Skyfox says they do as they say on the tin, very easy calving, and then develop the muscle at about 6-8 weeks. Grow well, and do well for us as stores with buyers always coming back to buy them . Best in the stores this time was 440kg £1150 for a bunch of 6 Piedmontese steers out of Angus cows. They don’t weigh quite as heavy as a similar sized lim as they’re very fine boned but buyers do pay more as they know what they’re buying. So
No idea why they aren’t more popular !

Couple of pictures of our current piedmont bull.

Any youngstock photos? I'm still on the fence with them.

Just out of interest, what was the Lincoln Red Stand like. How did people get on with them?
WB
People on it very friendly and very helpful, the lady on it knew her stuff( she told me who I'd bought my bull off a few years ago), had quite a chat with Mr President man(really nice unassuming chap) overall good I'd say.
