Hello all!

I am doing a study on beef consumption in the UK, I want to find out how impacted and prepared beef farmers will be by things like vegan activism, the increase in people who want to reduce how much red meat they eat etc! There is a lot about it all in the news and media, I thought it was just vegans and vegetarians but there seems to be a growing trend for people being concerned about how much red meat they eat.. With my study I am hoping to be able to find out how farmers view the public's perception of beef farming, whether it will continue and how prepared they may / may not be for it.

Please fill in the survey, the link is at the bottom, just copy and paste into browser. There are a few questions but I have tried to make it so you can do it quickly and not waste your time!! I'm afraid you'll be doing it for free but it's pretty interesting (I think!) and a topic that all of us farmers have to think about!

Open to all thoughts about the subject so please feel free to message with anything I may have missed out! I want to make sure this study can actually be of use to someone.. preferably a beef farmer!

Many thanks in advance! Please share the link to any beef farmer you know, the more the merrier!!

Also, it is completely anonymous, you don't have to give any personal details etc!

Done.
Given the reasons for folk wanting to reduce eating meat, I find a prediction of an increase in poultry consumption over the next 6 years staggering.
For myself, I think if beef maintains 95% of its current level, that is as good as we can hope for.

I am trying to reduce the herd/increase the cereals but the French subsidy/attitude toward Ag chems is quite a stumbling block...

Hi brand new member.
I can't get your whatsit to load, but meantime....

Tell us a bit about yourself....
what sort of rotation you're (attempting) using, what kit you're running, where you are with soil om? are you on FBT/AHA? buried with debt, or freehold and clear? DD and all that stuff? Got an SBI?
All those sorts of questions an sallow skinned vegan activist might struggle to answer convincingly.

(and apologies if your kosher (ha ha!), and to JP1 if he's done this already)

The link should work and the survey is very reasonable

To be fair to the OP, she did follow the request to PM a mod stating the survey intentions. She's a student and farmer's Daughter

Haha. Far from a vegan activist!! just trying my best not to be too biased and make my study pointless!!
Farmers daughter, helping out my mother who runs it in between studying. We are all arable these days except a few sheep. No beef, just an interest in it and how opinionated some people are about it and farming. Got winter wheat and winter OSR in the ground, spring barley to drill. No FBT, all freehold fortunately. Got an SBI, even a holding number and a few entitlements when the RPA feel like it. Have a few other things going on the farm too to help make ends meet!
Hope the link works now..!! ;) Thank you all for doing it so far, really interesting reading the responses!

I'm interested and I'm sure others will be ...... we need to be careful though that we are not giving out 'vegan' fodder with the results .
Great. Yes i agree, I hope to steer clear of that. I want to focus on things some farmers have already mentioned like the importance of a focus on provenance, high standards and sustainability of production that are easily forgotten by a lot of the public when programmes are being aired showing the worst of farming, a lot of which isn't even in the UK. I am anti radicalism in any way but am finding it interesting exploring how it does impact on the farmers and the power the media has on production
