It didn't seem as good as that last April!
Ooooo, It was .............
............from post #18840, April 28th 2018........
NSL back a bit on last week, SQQ 314.7p/kg - happy enough with our first draw.........
It didn't seem as good as that last April!
And on top a hell of a lot of lambs lost last spring, a lot of lambs killed light up to press due to grass situation and Banged on creep to get them away which is a one way street to get them gone earlier than they would usually to try and take less into winter just my take on it anyway probably be £55.00 for next three months now and make me look daft.Pretty much, every year, a graph of lamb prices follows this pattern......

........... @Skintagain is merely taking the current price and extrapolating it into next year.
So we are lower than this time last year with a very weaker pound.Pretty much, every year, a graph of lamb prices follows this pattern......

I will make a forecast that fat hoggs will be no more than £60-£80 next April onwards.About£1.50 live/kg.Nothing going to France, thats 30% of our entire output. We will be solely reliant on our home market and our ethnic buyers, with massive swings around the festival dates,as we are already starting to see.Because everyone will cash them in now whilst they’re a good trade and before the cost a fortune in expensive feed and therefore they’ll be a shortage in the spring.....the end
Thanks is that cattle up this week. Thought lambs would be more.
but if France have to buy nz lamb there will be less coming here to hold the price down, one thing is certain there hasn't been more lambs born in the world just because uk voted for brexitI will make a forecast that fat hoggs will be no more than £60-£80 next April onwards.About£1.50 live/kg.Nothing going to France, thats 30% of our entire output. We will be solely reliant on our home market and our ethnic buyers, with massive swings around the festival dates,as we are already starting to see.
Is there a graph for old season hoggs from Jan to June?Even better if the pound-euro was overlaid into it,and for the last 10 years or so.Pretty much, every year, a graph of lamb prices follows this pattern......

France are buying in from Spain heavily.More NZ lamb is going to Asia.but if France have to buy nz lamb there will be less coming here to hold the price down, one thing is certain there hasn't been more lambs born in the world just because uk voted for brexit
Longtown Breeding sheep sale today.Cheviot mule ewe lambs and shearlings, and Cheviot X Texel. Ewe lambs back about £20/head across the board.Very best shearlings i saw were £140-£180,with a top of £208/head.Decent quality £110-£130.Smalls/poorer £80-£100. Flock dispersal 1 and 2 shear £102/head,not bad types would be a decent buy.Highlight of the sale(for me) 6 proper Half Bred gimmers from High Moat for £122,and 4 ewe lambs at £85.Sedge today.
Store cattle trade the strongest trade for many many weeks with all grades of cattle looking very well sold.
Stirks, a very difficult trade and would be down some £50/60 on two weeks ago, like for like on 12 months ago trade would be back some £120/150 head.
Calves, again a very difficult trade especially for the stronger sorts which would be back some £80 head on two weeks ago, 2nd grade calves back some £30/40 head.
Store lambs, a very good trade given the dire prime price with medium keep lambs around the £58 mark.

I will bet you £20 to a charity of your choice that they’ll be nearer £2 live than £1.50 in AprilI will make a forecast that fat hoggs will be no more than £60-£80 next April onwards.About£1.50 live/kg.Nothing going to France, thats 30% of our entire output. We will be solely reliant on our home market and our ethnic buyers, with massive swings around the festival dates,as we are already starting to see.

Well I’ll bet him £20 they’ll be averaging over £2If the pound continues to weaken then it could be far more than £2.00!
I hope you are right.I probably wont have all of mine away by the end of March, especially some Swale wedders bought in an idle moment for £18.50/head.I will bet you £20 to a charity of your choice that they’ll be nearer £2 live than £1.50 in April
If the Farmers Weekly journalists are making that up they want sacking.People buy it for a source of true information, not tabloid gossip.Have you ever seen Spanish lambs?
That was a story put in the Farmers Weekly which is about as true as if it was in the Daily Mail!!
How low do you think the pound will go? Its already at 1.10 to the euro.Parity not far off.If the pound continues to weaken then it could be far more than £2.00!
