Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

I wasnt really geared up to buy anything, and usually cattle at Hexham are always dear. But i thought the same as you, some very good cattle at £700 would be worth a go.They must be at least £100 back on the year, maybe more.I just popped in late to see the trade, and also what the store lambs were making.
In a year like this where all feed is dear if you’ve got it or not those 13 months old £700 beast that are well fleshed and moving up in condition look the best ones to be at. The smaller end will need much more time and feed to get them to move. For £100 more a lot of your work/expense has been done.

What was store lambs like? I didn’t get a look in

Store lambs still dear, but Hexham store is like two tier now with many pens of fat lambs going through mixed up with pens of proper store. There are 4 or 5 buyers stood in the pen before they go in the ring feeling all the lambs,so presumably Errington1 are fat going straight to kill. Most of Argos and the lad who buys for A Atkinson fat as well i think. These would be £70-£80+,with a pen of Beltex x i saw at £90. It would take £60-£65 to get decent store, whether theres any margin in them,i dont know.Probably would be if they hit £120 in Spring, but theres no guarantee of that this year.

Ha nowt changed there then!
I got a laugh the other day. There was a lad put 100+ in the ring at a small mart which will remain unnamed. He sold them but he told me there were far too many for one buyer to handle on his own so two buyers you mentioned above decided to split them after one had bought them. I did laugh

They were from towards your way, were they not? What were they like? His cousin still ties his suckler cows up by the neck in Winter.Quiet for Lim x cows.
Yes all used to ground weather like ours that’s why I went. A fair few 9+ years old so I didn’t bother with them ones although there was a dollar to be made out of a few of them. I only got one of the few younger end off him and 2 cows and calves off another small herd reduction. The cattle look great the price not so great but nice to look at whatever that means!!

Newark was hard work today......
.............first problem was navigating the council's 'state of the art' barrier system to get in

Once in, we didn't fare much better, SQQ 170.9p, down 5.7p on the week.

Best we had was £80 for 43kg Tex x Mules (186.05p).£80 for 47kg Tex x Mules. £74 & £75 for Char x Easy Cares.

Took 3 goes for the fudgin' barrier to let me out:eek: Things can only get better:scratchhead:

The weekly conundrum starts.

Do I take lambs in on Monday as prime or stick until Friday as “fit” stores?

2 weeks ago I made the right call as stores and was prob £2 ahead of the following Monday.

I seemed to have dropped of Stags Honiton Collection Centre list lady 2 weeks so no clue what they are offering.

Lambs a mix of texal cross and Suffolk cross. All over 44kg and fit.

The auto barrier wouldn't open for the bloke in front of me to get in. That caused a queue, which blocked the exit barrier:banghead: - but it didn't really matter 'cos the exit barrier wouldn't go up to let the 2 trucks in that queue out anyway:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You couldn't make it up

I rang Clapham in the week to get back onto list and he said he would text Sat if it was not working. Will see what tomorrow brings or ring first thing Monday. I have to take half a dozen to Ottery for private sales so will see.

£1.86 can't be bad surely, relative to current LW trade?
