Well over 2500 spring lambs at Exeter today.. Trade down by £18/20 head across the board, making around just over £2 kilo .

Collection centre doesn't want anymore lambs this week if they haven't already been booked in.
What would 41/42kg lambs be making today at Exeter?
Just wondered if lighter lambs were more sought after than heavier ones
Got some to go Wednesday to Holsworthy

I had a pen of 44kg in that made £92.80 and a single 47kg in at £94.80

Smart lambs though and suspect I did pretty well against the average.

Lighter lambs were an easier sell but don't recall the prices as not seen many sold before I left.

Same old problem..far too many lambs on one day in the South West heard Honiton done around a 1000 and Sedgemoor had 1400...Upwards they are a lot dearer,it was full in Honiton when I popped in with 23...couldt really believe it as I thought the price was not that good..how wrong I was

The shelves looked well stocked with beef in my local Morrisons earlier today. Shrewsbury.

Not going to feed too many.

The point is, the display is near full, so there is product available for the customer (as opposed to the empty shelves reported elsewhere). The proportion of space given to joints will be decided by how they sell compared to other packs in that display. I would expect steaks and mince to be displayed in far higher proportions, especially in the summer (BBQ?) season.

Exeter today they would have made just over £2 kilo unless they were top price lambs.

Figures aren't out yet for Exeter but that isn't surprising as they would still have been selling cull ewes at 3.30 pm, the place was packed with them as well as spring lambs.

Sedge had nearly 1700 spring lambs, SQQ was £2 kilo for springers so looks a worse trade than Exeter!

Sedge also had 725 hoggs in and that trade dropped 20pk across the board.

No one seems to know.

Some seem to think however that many farmers are now cutting sheep numbers or getting out altogether due to last years weather and now very poor lamb/ hogg prices the last few months!

Seems to be a lot of very good ewes with a few years life left in them in the cull pens every week that is for sure!

When cull prices are higher now than the same sheep were as breeders were last backend then there lies the answer
