When cull prices are higher now than the same sheep were as breeders were last backend then there lies the answer
yes but presumably they would have been put to ram , everyone thought trade would be reasonable this spring not as good as last year but better than now , so those breeders would have lambs at foot , unless they brought lambing forward to get rid (lambs and ewes) before britexit hit hard which would explain the numbers of springers in mart at the moment

Most people delayed lambing this year due to last years bad spring weather.

No one seems to know.

Some seem to think however that many farmers are now cutting sheep numbers or getting out altogether due to last years weather and now very poor lamb/ hogg prices the last few months!

Seems to be a lot of very good ewes with a few years life left in them in the cull pens every week that is for sure!
Culling for cash flow maybe, plenty of bills to pay this time of year

Shelfgate,
The plot thickens. Has guth revealed the offending store to you yet ?
Maybe he just shops very late, just before closing time before the shelves get replenished. :)

I presume this was the store guth was on about.
Mrs PBH was in this morning at 10.30 and wanted joints. The guy at the counter was busy and 1 woman waited a while then walked off. When asked he said they hadn't got that day's delivery out yet as short staffed, though management didn't think so. He did say stock tends to get run down on a sunday.

That does look a pretty poor show. I suppose you could say they’d had a busy weekend and sold out.

Surely someone as big as them have to keep there shelves fully stocked constantly:scratchhead: otherwise run the risk of losing custom!

I had to go into the local Tesco at the weekend under severe duress, wife laid up after an operation.

That store is just 1 junction down the M5 from GUTH’s.

I came away with about 25% of the list unfulfilled.

(But maybe that was because I could not find what was needed as I’m a rare visitor)

Walking past the chillers though I got the feeling there could be more on the shelves.

I did not dare look at country of origin for the lamb and beef. It would have wound me up
I’m sure!!

Not that I'm complaining. I'm a butcher so I hope some of there customers filter across to us this week. But I know a lot of you lads on here need the super markets to buy your stock. So it's not good seeing shelves half empty:mad:

its a good time to go - its when they put the biggest discount stickers on the just in date stuff , is this astute or tight ? but means there would be shelf space

Yes they were by reg sires. Back to blues again in 2 weeks.

I have a few I was planning on taking to the mart this Thursday but we had to do a cesarian on a heifer yesterday morning so that has put us back a good half a day jobs wise and I don’t know if I’ll catch up to go to the mart.

I was told £3.92 for them dead under the scheme last week , they need feeding to finish them but I’m wondering if they will do better on the hook?
