Christ, look at all that grass, no wonder you breed big lambs o_O
Grass is cheaper than cake! .
For the first time this year we sold our killing swale ewes in late june instead of late august....lambs never took any harm even though they werent on creep and ewes made £20/head more, thats partly why we have the grass this time i think.

Just had a text from Voyce Pullin saying finished lambs have gone dearer. True or not?

Had the same; as usual it doesn’t quantify the increase....even 5p/kg hardly justifies the request of “draw everything that’s ready”.
Think more to do with declining support due to the lack of buying competition

Think Penrith where up, SQQ 179. But think this might reflect the standard of lamb in each mart. No idea what a show is like at Barney, but sounds like Penrith has a good show of quality lambs.
There’s likley not a lot of buyers at Barney so when the trades back there’s no safety net

Or how the scales work more likely, I stopped selling at one of our local marts when all the lambs suddenly weighed 3kg less than they should have. The one I do sell at play fair but have a poor sqq, take your pick

A lot of ewes are bought up in smaller marts and sold in the bigger ones. Make of it what you will but the same lads are doing it and have been for years. Some lambs are bought and sold that way too

If they are selling in £ per kg then tell trading standards, if things are sold by weight then they have to be weighed correctly or I would think its fraud

Trading Standards don’t seem to care, all they do is check the scales weigh right, all the auction has do is work out the weight per lamb minus x and put that up on the board. The buyers will know, the sellers work it out but it makes a mockery of the SQQ quoted

How many of us actually know the individual weights of lambs just before they are loaded so we can work out what the sorted pen weight at market should have been. We place a lot of trust in markets and it’s what we are paying them for. But we’d all be better placed to criticise if we knew what we were sending.
