How many of these people are there who need to get off their butts? We are at statistically full employment and that's with 3 million (?) EU citizens.

Figures are a little out of date for my liking but June 2019 rate of unemployment was 3.8%, which to be fair is very low.
How much of that 3.8 ( 2.5m ) are farm fit I have no idea, that would need to be a bigger project.

It's the lowest rate of unemployment since the mid 70s IIRC, although there are more part-time posts, zero hours etc. I would imagine most of what's left wouldn't be tremendously productive..

Yes to both. I had a feel of a few live lambs and thought they were on the raw side. JC can't put his hand on every lamb in a lot, though and there's no grader a St. Boswells. I assume Hexham is the same?
From what i have seen at Hexham,he doesnt feel very many at all.And if he does,he only feels the tail dock. There is no grader at Hexham. You would be a good chap to give a demonstration on live to dead.(y)

To clarify, these lambs weren't dog lean but I would have given them another couple of weeks.

I'm reasonable at drawing lambs but you want to get yourself on a proper AHDB day course. They're well worthwhile.

When I went on a live to dead the deadweight firms only wanted hatracks ....I wouldn’t of dared sending anything as lean
I aim for 3L/3H when sending deadweight. I don't tend to draw them as 2s unless there's good reason. At 3H, to me I have maximised the weight on that lamb and that will more than compensate for the 5p/kg penalty. And be better eating to boot!

It's not just slaughter houses ..some of the soft fruit farms have struggled to retain workers. They are going back home.
I dont think they are going home tbh, i think they have moved up the ladder and got better jobs. After brexit i can see africans being the next poor sods flown over to do the jobs nobody else wants. I havent seen a poor fruit farmer so perhaps they should pay more.

Had a quick look in Hexham today.Thought it would be better after green showing across markets yesterday and end of last week. These are a few prices i saw; SUFF x,44s @ £68.50. 46s @69.50,£71.50. 47s @£72 .TEX x,47s @£73.50,40s @£64, 38s @£62. These were all good quality proper fat lambs. As good as any i saw were a big pen of Blackies 38s @£60.

More over fat lambs in today than under finished, some had serious cover in them, still sold ok mind. Best price of the day was £59 for 34kg Shetland x beltex lambs. Bet they won’t get killed mind
My 47.5kg Mules made £72 better than last week but still sh!t when they’ve been on feed for a month. Be interesting to see how the ones I sent dead weight compare when I get the grades tomorrow
