Mine is bvd free...mine is farm assured from birth to slaughter...mine is slaughtered and processed in EnglandPGI status, farm assured from birth to slaughter, born, reared, slaughtered and processed in Scotland and therefore a brand recognised as a quality product by over 90% of consumers.
Well why don't you market it as such?Mine is bvd free...mine is farm assured from birth to slaughter...mine is slaughtered and processed in England
I am by no means knocking Scottish beef but it is by no means any better than English beef just because it’s 2 miles over Hadrian’s wall
Marketing isn’t my job...that’s what I pay my levies forWell why don't you market it as such?
Me too and QMS are responsible for protecting the integrity of the Scotch beef brand.Marketing isn’t my job...that’s what I pay my levies for
I don’t begrudge you getting more for your beef...I just think we should get the same as there’s no difference in the product apart from the marketingMe too and QMS are responsible for protecting the integrity of the Scotch beef brand.
Scottish cattle have always been dearer than EnglishI don't think there is any difference.just clean cattle are a bit short up here or so I've been told.an that's why their a bit dearer.
Historically, the largest percentage of scottish beef cattle were suckler bred (many with AA blood) and tended to be well finished whilst English cattle had a much higher percentage of dairy bred animals. This gave scottish cattle a great reputation south of the border especially at the highly important Smithfield market in London. It was from this reputation that the brand was developed.Scottish cattle have always been dearer than English
As I said I’m not denying it’s good beef but mine is also beef bred sucklers...it’s just a marketing gimmickHistorically, the largest percentage of scottish beef cattle were suckler bred (many with AA blood) and tended to be well finished whilst English cattle had a much higher percentage of dairy bred animals. Just the same as welsh lamb has a 10p/kg bonus quite often if born and finished in wales?PGI status, farm assured from birth to slaughter, born, reared, slaughtered and processed in Scotland and therefore a brand recognised as a quality product by over 90% of consumers.
No difference between Scottish and English but Scotch is a superior product.
None of us have crystal balls.! So really it's make your own mind up time. As others have said trade will rise a little bit more yet but could turn a bit jittery going into the 2nd half of January.Been selling weekly since beginning of june.got 450 lambs left.been thinking if i should start creeping and sit on the lambs for a month b4 start moving again and hope the price goes up again or jjust keep going weekly?all on grass at the moment.are lambs going to keep rising or is this just a blip?!!
You could always buy some back if you think that you are missing a trick. I usually buy some Hill lambs back to sell later. Sounds daft but to reduce numbers when room and grass is tight is often a good move if the trade allows. I often look at it in the way ‘would I be able to buy the lambs at the price I’m selling them at and make a shilling’None of us have crystal balls.! So really it's make your own mind up time. How much grass have you got might be a factor as well.
Someone once said if you see a stick you should cut it,- ie trade is OK ish at the min.
I remember keeping them on, well into the new yr last yr and the trade never lifted like I had hoped!
Make your own mind up lol

Its cos of the colder climate if you slice one in half you will see the rings are much closer together indicating the shorter growing season, ads to the quality don't you knowScottish cattle and lamb seem to kill out better, don't know why but they always seem to perform better on average. Alot of wholesalers will pay a few pence more for Scottish.
I think they kill out better because they're happier.....better scenery/tastier grass I assume? Its cos of the colder climate if you slice one in half you will see the rings are much closer together indicating the shorter growing season, ads to the quality don't you know
I’ve heard some rubbish on here but this takes the biscuit.Scottish cattle and lamb seem to kill out better, don't know why but they always seem to perform better on average. Alot of wholesalers will pay a few pence more for Scottish.
