Demand for mince is off the chart and thus why Fri steers are selling like ice creams on a summers day in the middle of a heatwave!

Normally when Fri steers sell well it means prime is on the up before long!
Trouble is yes mince is selling well but it still cost the same if not more to rear a Fri does it not? And then get less ppk when kill?

Carlisle beef breeding sale looked dear to me today. Any decent heifers and calves straight over 2k. There were plenty of the poorer types which were more buyable but not everyone’s pick. Some chancy cattle at the end including some decent incalf (or not) heifers for around £900 would either be the best or worst buy depending on what the full story was.
Do any poorer sorts/thin/horned/dairy bred types of suckler cows go through on the proper breeding sales? Or would they be just as good going on a wednesday in the weaners ring?

There was some real bad cattle went through near the end today some were in the 3/400 mark. I couldn’t see them making any more on a Wednesday or a Monday to be fair.
