Hereford market are to fire up again with no breeding stock allowed and a drop and go for vendors. Sheep buyers will have to wear face masks! They are a lively bunch at the best of times!

It's pay day tomorrow for alot of folk, so the supermarkets will be ramed this weekend.

That is the worry,could easily happen here,then we really do have a problem.Plenty of farmers will need to get stock away for cash flow reasons,its all very well saying don't sell hogs for £70-80 but that's not a complete disaster,unless you bought expensive store lambs but that is a high stakes game anyway. Lamb at more than £5/kg dwt is unsustainable right through the year IMO,makes it too expensive compared to other meats,even beef.

It's not great. I wouldn't mind if lamb dropped in the shop so people got the taste for it, but they won't drop it,

I talked to an auctioneer yesterday and it was his impression that the abattoirs had got together, said 'its now or never,this is our chance' and got the prices back ready for this years lambs starting to come on market through the spring and summer.

That's why we need to hold them, but people won't, because they'll be frightened into selling.

trouble is lots of workers....abbatoir workers amongst them.....are going to work feeling at risk and wondering why they can't stay at home on 80% pay.....TBF they've got a point.......some of our lowest valued workers (eg shelf stackers) are having to work whilst a lot of management types are sitting at home safe on £600/wk

Does anyone think supermarkets should cut lines further. Limit choice to more essential products get rid of half the crap they stock. People in and out quicker

I don’t know I haven’t been in one of the big ones lately but if people have too much choice it will mean they take longer in each store and there seems to be a lot of concerns over workers health. I think they should be providing the essentials for the nation and forget half the other crap for a few weeks.

Lamb has always been a luxury product, more so in the EU than here. The amount of lamb eaten here is very small compared with Pork and Chicken and I am not sure that having a lower price would increase the number of people eating it unless it was very cheap.

Better the price stays up for all. I see today's SQQ was almost £2.00 and numbers very short.

Lamb has always been a luxury product, more so in the EU than here. The amount of lamb eaten here is very small compared with Pork and Chicken and I am not sure that having a lower price would increase the number of people eating it unless it was very cheap.

Better the price stays up for all. I see today's SQQ was almost £2.00 and numbers very short.

I'm not suggesting it should be cheap @Frank-the-Wool , as you say it's luxury. But when the prices fall, it won't fall in the shops and become more appealing to the consumer.

Yes and they have no loyalty to people who deal with them every week of the year, as soon as they can get someone to sell them stock for a penny or two less than you some week they drop you like a stone. They are definitely at their work, was talking to a girl in moypark tonight and they are cleared out of chicken,huge demand, I,m pretty sure all meat except maybe lamb is pretty scarce, had a buyer for another factory we dont deal with ring this evening looking for cattle for tomorrow and friday.
