Unfortunatly i can sniff a glut of cow beef due to the drought driving down the prime beef price , just like 2018! If it rains the skies the limit, if it doesnt larry will have our pants down, or try too.
Your right. This is when poor prices started, summer 2018 when farmers were offloading stock due to lack of grass and straw/feed prices. It's never recovered.

I'm nervous about it dropping again, feeding a fair few cull cows at moment and spring 19 bulls nearly ready to go.

As @Optimus says there isnt the cows about perhaps, but many auctions are starting to see larger numbers of feeder/barren cows forward . The real problem is when dairy herds start culling hard ,and with some having very tough times due to covid related supply chain problems and/or drought/feed worries they might just start shipping them out in large numbers. I can remember in 2018 hearing of artic loads of dairy cows from single farms being offloaded to ease feed worries which just flooded the beef job. I dont think it would be as bad as 2018 but it would cap the beef trade some

Cull cows a very strong trade here today in local mart, saw a cpl sold online 828kgs at 240 pence, she was into £1987, saw plenty over 210 pence. Plenty of fr cows in the 140 pence bracket.

I though I would take some welsh hoggs that have been kicking around for a while (where worth about £10 at Christmas) live weight yesterday, I don't usually do live weigh because of the obligation to stay there for the whole morning to see them sell. Dropped them off at 6 email through at lunch to say they made £93 so very happy and managed to get a whole days shearing in as well. I think I will start putting some lambs through market now I don't have to be there.
