Im not talking about the ones doing a good job of their calf, im on about the cow with goat type calf trotting behind from lack of milk. A good calf will always sell a cow.I'd better keep quiet here! ? 80% of my herd comes like this! ? If it's got a good bull calf on and doesn't look a dyer they generally end up on my wagon. Always make room for another! ☺
I didnt offer a value on calves out of blue grey cows because i wouldnt see any around here to make an educated guess . Everybodys farming in the "hope" thats just farming in a nut shellGreat for the seller but no one else is making a penny on it even at the current beef price.
Was it out of a blue grey?
Look, it’s good to see suckler calves fetching what they are but they are being bought very much on the hope that prices will remain or even increase from where they are when it appears that they have in fact stalled.
Either it will catch a second wind and carry on up to the fabled £4/kg or reality will set in. I’ve been finishing cattle for many years and seen a lot of peaks and troughs. Neither the peaks nor the troughs last very long.
That’s not sour grapes because I’m being outbid by the endless optimists at market.
Gone bust?Haworth? Any one else heard the rumours?
That’s the talkGone bust?
Not really shockedThat’s the talk
On grass?E grade cattle finish a lot quicker than R grade cattle
I'd argue that.my plainer R grades are usually gone before the u+, E grades.find the more shape they have less growth.E grade cattle finish a lot quicker than R grade cattle
Well I would disagreeI'd argue that.my plainer R grades are usually gone before the u+, E grades.find the more shape they have less growth.
I agree with that one ,the extreme ones seem to hang around here for a long time,u grades would be my first choice as the E grades will often get knocked for fat coverI'd argue that.my plainer R grades are usually gone before the u+, E grades.find the more shape they have less growth.
Finished to me is as close to the weight limit as possible or fat cover.don't see why you would kill a beast short of the limit.
You may get R grade cattle away quicker but only cos they go fat on you, never weigh like a U+ beast
Weight and finish are two different things. You said E grade would finish quicker. You may get R grade cattle away quicker but only cos they go fat on you, never weigh like a U+ beast
