Any word on cast ewe trade at longtown today or even UA? I was considering running a load down but after speeking to auctioneer decided to leave it a couple weeks. Bet there on fire now!
Ewes no dearer than they were at the start of July still a fair trade in my opinion though, today could be the first real test for the lamb trade this year let’s hope it continues at pace

exchange rate is helping ,1.10e = £1 , was 1.20e in feb (im trying to import lol ) ,but its climbing so expect lambs to temper a bit if it goes much higher , still demand as tourist trade picks up across europe

Surely that's too late for the festival now? Planning a few away next week myself, and dreading if it will drop like a stone but maybe not.
Farmers fresh are killing on Saturday for it so I guess they want it and can get it moved. Who knows what Monday will do I think they'll drop back depends how far and for how long, store lamb trade will put a decent bottom in it with the trade they are. Monday will be interesting.

Clean Cattle – (120)The trade remains electric, the heifers today averaged a stunning 229ppk and the steers 219ppk, the professional feeders are certainly getting the rewards they deserve at the moment as the well fleshed beast are in real demand. James Crichton of Loughrigg Farm, Egremont once again found high rewards at the East end of the A66 as he topped the sale at 259ppk with a smart Limousin heifer which was bought by local butchers H Taylor & Sons of Darlington, five beast from the Cumbrian home averaged 245ppk on the day. Some amazingly good steers were forward this week, a trio from local producer J L Marks, Gilly Flatts were simply stunning British Blue bullocks and to average 247ppk with a top of 253ppk purchased by Thompson Wholesale, Witton-le-Wear. Incredibly the Gilly Flatts steer played second fiddle on the day as beautiful pair of steers made the long journey from Lincolnshire more than worthwhile for T A & L C Lyon, Lintre House when they sold to average 253ppk with a top of 258ppk, this tremendous sort was bought by Deacons Family Butchers, Tibshelf. A further pair of heifers on the day reached 258ppk as W Swinbank & Sons of Caldwell, Richmond produced a terrific British Blue and a good day with the bulls was capped nicely for the Mills of Northamptonshire, they also joined the elite list at 258ppk as this good home sold 13 quality homebred heifers to average 240ppk.

Lambs – (2853) An outstanding entry of lambs on offer today in a week where trade has been flying due to the forthcoming Festival of Eid. Yesterday saw trade fall away as wholesalers built up stock numbers with trade all over the place and some of the fashionable centres reporting averages between 208-215ppk. Today was very much a story of 2 trades with the heavy well- fed lambs together with the best bred Beltex & Texel crosses extremely well sold. The 39-41kg lambs that were short of meat and lacking leg were the hardest to sell.
It is important to remember how far in front of last year’s levels lambs are even more incredible when thinking of the situation in the world. Trade going forward is anyone’s guess but we suspect numbers drastically reduced which may rally trade later

A top price of 255ppk was achieved jointly by K&PM Lough, Redgate House Farm who’s single lamb sold for £109.50 to West Scottish Lamb & JD Brannen, Red Barns Farm who sold a pen of 4 lambs for £104.50 to West Scottish Lamb. The lead grossing price of £118.50 was obtained by JC Simpson, Hill Top East who sold a single lamb to Andrew Atkinson Livestock & W Swinbank & Sons, Greystones who’s single lamb was purchased by JA Jewitt Ltd, Spennymoor.
