The Cheviot mule ewe lambs I sold last year were sold in Thainstone today, the buyer lifted them £115 on their buying price. Who says there’s no money in sheep!!
They should make the most of this year. £90-£100 for mule ewe lamb runners this year might be £85 next year as gimmers. You could buy plenty good gimmers 2 years ago for £80-£90.

Breeding sheep a strong trade in Dingwall today. I was here for feeding sheep but there were loads of good cheviot stock ewes regularly topping 100 and loads of correct below ewes in the 70's. right nice show of shearlings, cheviot Mules up over 200, texel crosses over 200. To buy a nice cheviot mule you had to be thinking 185+. Actually making my tupping ewe lambs at £130 average look more bareable! Store lambs a good trade. Wasn't much of a lamb to hit £50, anything nice was £60-£70. Some real crap cheviot lambs in the early 40's. sort of thing that dies come the first good frosts!

we all have been in the sheep job long enough to expect such a thing , but i genuinely think this year will be the new norm , prices have stagnated for maybe 20 years , but now with china trade and other opportunities in the pipe line for muslim populations (even without a euro deal) , you only have to look at world prices to see £5kg + is quite a normal price now , maybe £6kg early doors .

im getting email updates nearly everyday from aus , £100+eq lambs a regular occurrence these days, if you think your going to get them with £90 replacements you will be waiting a while .

edit :Ballarat report (aus) yesterday

Lamb supply increased to 13,302 yarded. The quality was very good with over half the yarding new season young lambs. Most of the usual buying group attended, but not all were active in a strong market with increases from $6 to $14/head across the yarding. Young lambs sold to a top of $201 and old season lambs sold to a top of $237/head.

Export 4 score heavy 26 to 30kg lambs sold from $175 to $228/head, while 30kg and over lambs sold from$206 to $237/head,
