It's getting late enough for selling ewe lambs? A lot of folk will want them bought before now if they are going to tup them. By the time they need a - (toxovax and enzovax jag etc) amongst a few other treatments possibly before bringing into the flock/tups in.

I agree with this but a lot lamb them in May outside to give them time but the buyers are reducing this time of year. People will be getting spent up on breeding sheep too hasn’t taken long to spend a few grand this year

Sold ewe lambs hereford today v disappointed to be honest. Texel x, 30 big enough to tup smart heads £88.
That ship has sailed
We used to sell away mule ewe lambs biggest first down to smaller ones later. Always had the feeling that every week that passed with them at home we at least got paid for the jeep often a good bit more. Job seems to have changed a bit for a good few years now. Trade is good early then falls away when the main sales have passed. Not sure why

I'm tempted to cash a third. Would spread risk a bit.
More cows to winter here so that’s one thing but seems no point in keeping hold of them until March. The last couple of years that early spring trade has not been anything exciting anyway. I thought sell some big stores and buy some poor done things back in rather than keep what I have here as they have had a bit of feed all summer/autumn

Yeh I totally agree. I was bloody disappointed like. Trouble is you get the big money of previous sales in your head & think they're be the same.....

We would be back £200 on what we used to average. Weight limits have cut back what finishers can afford to pay for our charolais.

Finishers will have made some money on our stores this year so hopefully buy again in springtime.

I don’t usually sell much before December. They can lift £100/£150 when bps time is near. Instead of mainly feeding men and dealers buying there are farmers buying too. Keeping stores until spring isn’t cheap if you have them on a rising plain. Originally it was done to hit the high spring trade but I’m not feeling that spring trade is as good as it was. I’m told the short keep cattle are dear and long keep ones are cheaper. Get rid of good stores and buy some longer keep stuff.
Excluding suckler calves that is!

Popped into the weaned calf sale in Hfd yesterday . Thought about buying a few to winter . What a dreadful show of weaned calves . I wasn't expecting suckler bred quality but I really wonder why some bother to rear calves then sell them at 9/10 mths old for 300 quid . I'm not saying they were worth more .....to be honest I'm surprised they made that much !
