I had years of doing that. Sold 400 draft ewes at 3 crop their prime every year and lambed 500 shearlings and kept hundreds with no teeth. It can be done but there can be a few disasters along the way.
Cull ewe values and disposal charges have persuaded me to keep a relatively younger flock
Sometimes you have to do what you have to do though

I’m seriously considering the other end of the scale [emoji85] buying 300-400 draft ewes every year... lambing then... then kill the lambs and any ewes loosing teeth or condition ect and repeat probably carry 150 a year over from the batch and kill them in second year

When keeping replacements if people sell in autumn or summer how do you select gimmers. We run most of our lambs to Hoggs so can pull out when something like a size. Obviously the true breeders do it properly recorded and don’t just go on type and looks.

😂 to be fair it keeps the quiet and easy to move so worth it just for that, if they would of been they would of had a fair tmr so for me 1kg is nothing🤣

Your cattle are very well bred and reared so i am never surprised that you always do very well with them when selling.

Having seen your cattle sold many times in the past i can really say they are a massive credit to you @dinderleat and its nice to see your hard work paying off in the sale ring :)

All my cattle have a little bit out of the bag all yr round . It makes it easy to get them back in when our friendly walkers leave the gates open . I don't , however, consider it ' feeding ' its more of a management tool
