Given how big they were when they arrived i’m really pleased with how they’ve grown. I did get bollocked when a wagon of tiny Cheviot and x lambs arrived. But these are the smallest in them and they’ve done grand on 2nd quality grass. Mortality in the polled lambs is at 2.4% so far. The horned lambs.... not so good. At 9% up too now. I bought some “cheap” blackie lambs and they just haven’t done. Will try and remember to get a snap of the blackies when we gather on WednesdayThey must look better on the picture, look heavier! Done well for you, look fit
I’ve been dosing my blackie lambs with levafas Diamond (basically Nilzan) it does rumen fluke. Don’t know if there’s anything in it but it’s helped them onGiven how big they were when they arrived i’m really pleased with how they’ve grown. I had some lambs that weren’t moving much, give them a mineral drench an you wouldn’t recognise them in a fortnight!I used that one as my incoming wormer/fluke dose this time. Seems a good product.
One batch of mine weren’t right so I thought the fact it covered rumen fluke would eliminate one more thing. They came right afterwardsI used that one as my incoming wormer/fluke dose this time. Seems a good product.

I pulled the 70 smallest blackies early December, dosed then with everything. Put them on turnips and sugar beet pulp nuts. Apart from 4 the rest of them have started doing well now. It was just all the death beforehand that was getting very annoying! One batch of mine weren’t right so I thought the fact it covered rumen fluke would eliminate one more thing. Don’t beat yourself up about it, it’s what they do. I often wonder if some are snuffing it before you buy them? Then we have to work out what they need from a blank page.I pulled the 70 smallest blackies early December, dosed then with everything. Put them on turnips and sugar beet pulp nuts. Paying for them twice more like. Once when they snuff it and again to get them awayDeath can be annoying, especially when there’s money involved
RiskyAnyone cashing in their replacement ewe lambs?
I mentioned it to dad just to see what he'd say...
I had barbers pole worm an wormer resistance in a batch of lambs about ten years ago an feck me did they die!! Never had it before, cost some time an money to put it right I can tell you, fecking depressing as well when you try your best for them!Don’t beat yourself up about it, it’s what they do. I’m pretty sure some of those smaller models just won’t survive no matter what we do. I normally don’t buy them that small but the miser in me was pulling my purse strings!Don’t beat yourself up about it, it’s what they do. I often wonder if some are snuffing it before you buy them? Do they work with sheep ?i'm just wondering if the high sheep prices are being caused by arable farmers buying them and switching to sheep so they can get out of red tractor
Not this year it sometimes it costs more for the knacker man than the lamb cost out of market!Paying for them twice more like. Once when they snuff it and again to get them away
