How many £100 fines came through your post afterwards?

None. It would have been before the A9 average cameras, but I recall it took 3:50 to Perth Tesco petrol station and one and half from there up.

Worth pointing out that plane was cancelled from snow, and wasn’t fun until over Shap - but my mate drove that part and he’s fearless.

Wouldn’t do there and back, but I’m sure I’d do it one way in well under six. Remember doing Ringwood to Inverness Airport in a hire Corsa in five and a half hours one night, after the plane was cancelled.
Yes, but I’m English. If I got caught speeding on the A9 by all those cameras I’d be locked up for months!!

yes correct, Gwilym Richards used to sell at Gloucester he was really fast ,(moved over to wales now and does the suff at builth ) many complained he didnt give people time to bid at the end , but kept buyers on their toes for fear of missing out , didnt give them time to think really , averages were always higher with him in charge , the penny pinchers never commit to higher bids if given time anyway , you either want the stock or not .
John Uffold at Ludlow used to average 3 beasts a minute in the fat ring when he was in his prime at the old market and 600 hundred in front of him to sell I think

True ,but in my experience and other folks experience you have to accept the losses and the poor thrivers. They are cheap to buy for a reason. I don’t know why they are like that they didn’t use to be .
Too much bloody swale in them? Don’t know really.

I really like the blackie for finishing. But I can soon tell as they grow if someone has been using swale tups. Razor backed blackie lambs! Give me the old fashioned blocky blackie any day. As you say you have too accept the mortality and poor doers with them. A lot of folk I feel wouldn’t be laid back enough with them to manage it though. I treat them for EVERYTHING when they arrive, put them on mediocre pasture and just sit back and clean up the inevitable deaths. After 6 weeks and another fluke dose they are usually ready for the winter.

You also need too be able too give them plenty of time. You need to wait until now at the earliest really to start drawing fats. (Unless you buy the BIG ones too start with). But I’ve found I’m better buying medium Cheviots than big blackies. Same money and the Cheviots always sell better

Like I say, they aren’t for everyone. Almost certain most folk won’t want the hassle of blackie lambs!

It’s no secret the cheap lambs come out of the north. But there is always a catch! You can’t just buy and turn out from up there. That puts a lot of people off!

Plus they will have too compete with Big John E. If John’s on form you don’t get anything cheap anywhere!

If people want too try them I won’t be offended, I will just make certain that they get nothing cheap. Got too love the auction system! 😉

You must drive faster than me! I’m about 30 miles from Thelwall and Dingwall is a 8 hour drag! That’s not including a break on the M74 somewhere. Usually Annandale.

I do Stirling in the day, anywhere further up I’ve got a B&B I use. Good way too kill myself I’d have thought doing Dingwall and home in a day! 😉

Is the haulage home expensive ? Do you have to fill a lorry ? or do you have your own lorry?
