🤞As market drayton wrote in this weeks report, what the hell is the beef price going to be when everywhere opens up and demand for meat jumps up another gear!
It will still be round about where it is just now, they are determined Not to go beyond £4, because of the old excuse of consumer resistance, as too why there is no resistance for lamb at plus £6???,the cynic in me thinks that it is more than corporate force that is keeping beef down 🤔

It’s not as simple as that though. Export and world price have kept lamb well up. And domestic home cooking demand has kept beef reasonable. They probably will go up but as said before a lot of restaurants is foreign

I also expect a lot of premium cuts are being minced , as thats where demand is for quick cheap meals in supermarkets , there is always going to be price resistance to cheaper things like mince, If commercial demand is there for steak / joints when we open up it maybe different , but that will depend on how easy it will be to get imported product .

I hope it doesnt hit £4/kg because its only going one way after! A prolonged spell at the current price will do just fine

I think if Covid has taught us anything it is how much imported meat is used in our catering establishment’s and once things get back to normal our promotional bodies should be going all out to coerce and shame these establishments into using British products.
 
Too much bloody swale in them? Don’t know really.

I really like the blackie for finishing. But I can soon tell as they grow if someone has been using swale tups. Razor backed blackie lambs! Give me the old fashioned blocky blackie any day. As you say you have too accept the mortality and poor doers with them. A lot of folk I feel wouldn’t be laid back enough with them to manage it though. I treat them for EVERYTHING when they arrive, put them on mediocre pasture and just sit back and clean up the inevitable deaths. After 6 weeks and another fluke dose they are usually ready for the winter.

You also need too be able too give them plenty of time. You need to wait until now at the earliest really to start drawing fats. (Unless you buy the BIG ones too start with). But I’ve found I’m better buying medium Cheviots than big blackies. Same money and the Cheviots always sell better
But how are they expected to get that nice white band round the nose if they don't use Swale tups?? 😂

We'll kill quite a few Swaley tup hoggs at work in the spring normally. You don't need heads or jackets on to pick them out on the line!

Yes,they are desperate for it not to go over £4 cos it will keep going to about £4.40 in no time.The cattle arent about cos they have tried to pull the price back to draw more cattle out and have failed to increase numbers.

A man has pleaded guilty at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court to waste offences relating to a bonfire next to the electrical sub-station on the Circular Road in Newtownards, Co. Down.

Gareth Gill (51) of Abbot’s Walk, Newtownards pleaded guilty to two charges under the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997, for which he was fined £150 each and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy

On June 25, 2018, PSNI officers went to Gill’s yard, where they found a large amount of waste consisting of scrap wood, pallets, carpet and underlay.

Discussion with Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) officers confirmed the site...
