Lol 😂 apart from ewes straight off the mothers which are held inside for 4 hours pre loading everything else is in overnight to empty out, none of this sending with full bellies 🤦🏻‍♂️
Why not? They're going live not dead. It's weight that pays and a couple kilos of grass in their bellies makes them heavier. They'll be in a trailer for 20 minutes from here to market.
It's a long time for them to be stood in a market then a lorry to a lairage and then stood there for who knows how long. They've got plenty of time to empty out before being killed. I wouldn't want to be doing all that on an empty belly.

I think it's more the case they get dirty in the trailer and then even more dirty in the pen at the market as they empty out. It can knock your price when they go through the ring if they are dirty....

I've not seen them get dirty really unless one ends up on the floor but I know what you mean. Mine aren't in the trailer for long the market is only 10 miles away.

My local mart is an hour, usual journey for mine is 3-5hrs. They go nuts in slaughterhouse lairage if their dirty or come off lorries dirty, risk of e-coli is to great that they hold them for another day etc. I have to belly and crutch every lamb from 1st October. Way to many people send lambs straight off the field to try and keep weight in them but they go to stand in slaughterhouse lairage anyway emptying their bellies and then laying down in their faeces causing much bigger problems. 👍🏻
