And meI thought it was a Gritson ewe!
I never hear of them now. I sound like a right old fart knowing what they areAnd me
You should know thoughWhy did he not just say in lamb ewe instead of some word hardly anyone know what it was?
Is that a Gritstone ewe ? That’s what I thought it wasI’m going too have too ask.
What on earth is a grit ewe???
Down here a grit ewe is a speckled faced, thick boned ewe with a penchant for rearing 1 lamb every other year and not making a particularly marvellous job of that one..
I’m guessing you MUST mean something different!
Yep. A Derbyshire Gritstone. Only use is getting a bit of bone into a swale! Is that a Gritstone ewe ? That’s what I thought it was
I don’t like them either. Big dark faced attitudey lazy buggersYep. A Derbyshire Gritstone. Only use is getting a bit of bone into a swale!
Can you tell I don’t like them??
But every one knows what a grit ewe is. They do now!!Why did he not just say in lamb ewe instead of some word hardly anyone know what it was?
Breed a nice muleI don’t like them either. Big dark faced attitudey lazy buggers
I’m undecided on that point. Grandad bought a pen of BIG gritstone mule ewe lambs from Hawes a few years ago. From ewe lambs too going broken only 1 out of the 8 ever had twins. Granted, she had twins every year. But that left 7 bone idle pillocks rearing singlesBreed a nice mule
Neighbours Gritstone tup got in. We kept some for breeding not impressedBreed a nice mule
Some bad uns. Too many kept as hobby too.Neighbours Gritstone tup got in. We kept some for breeding not impressed
I've had plenty of GIT ewesBut every one knows what a grit ewe is. They do now!!
I think that’s the main problem. Too many non commercial breeders. Doesn’t do any breed any good! The again, look at Swales. Lots of commercial breeders but they are still obsessed with fine bone and pretty faces! Some bad uns. Too many kept as hobby too.
They are all gits if you ask meI've had plenty of GIT ewes

I’m all for a nice looking sheep. I just fail too see how it Makes sense too chase pretty faces to the detriment of body shape and size?Imagine a world where farmers actually bred too genetics and not what looked nice [emoji51][emoji28]... know a bloke who thinks white faced mules prolapse more than black faced

Had these 350 SBF in today, the last bit of frost we had wiped out the turnip tops they were on so they’ve finished the bulbs much faster!
Quite a few are ready too draw but every year I lose my bottle and draw too soon at the blackies. I’ve moved them onto this

Until the 1st of April. Not ideal having too go back on grass but it’s dry and a fresh ryegrass reseed. Trying my best too hold my nerve and hang on until they have finished grazing before cashing them in.
Strange, the other green crop 3 miles up the road has 1050 hoggs on it now and you can’t tell there has even been a cold snap on it.
On a positive note one of my grass men has asked if I want 50 acre of forage rape putting in after the wheat has been whole cropped. I managed too keep calm and reply “that sounds a good idea, I’m sure I can utilise it somehow” while the inner me was jumping up and down whistling and laughing while planning where I’m going too find more feeding ewes from...
Good job I’ve a few months too ponder on it!
