Tis all a bit of a gamble T/B/H one day they going to go the other way....keep them nibbling away....money in the bank if they go up ..so be it i will still have some ...if they go down well i have sold a good few...Do you know the worst thing of the lot is not having any when they really go up
DW quotes on here suggest coming weeks auction prices will be as good or higher than last week.
Only thing to consider is they will be working their way through the larger volume of last week’s hoggs presented and with festival starting that would suggest there’s s possibility of a slightly quieter couple of weeks for numbers and possibly demand. If there’s not as many presented then they should hold. There was a lot of excitement for last week folks had held hoggs for the job I thought it might have been overcooked like last year but it wasn’t money was good and went up.
Spring lamb will be coming thick and fast down the road but up here it’s still snowing no grass and the land is blue with the cold. This will give some of us a chance to get hoggs finished off that are running late before the supermarkets switch. Don’t forget that hoggs still go in a separate direction to spring lamb to some degree anyway and with the general sheep meat demand I don’t feel a lot to worry about but what do I know. Just keep at it send them when they are ready.
Was told years ago by a dealer there’s two types of folks Those that laugh at you when the hogg price is shyte and those who are living in fear of them getting a good trade and not having any to sell
I’m the second type
Just what you said

Any news from Sedgemoor today

Well 992 store cattle made over 1 million in cash for starters!!

( Average across the board £1037 head ) Cattle that looked the dearest were very plain hard farmed steers around the 28/33 month mark and about 450 kilos, nothing for them to make £1200 + at the drop of a hat.

Stirks, Much Much dearer on the week and the dearest trade anyone has ever seen, poor dairy bred stuff looked exceptionally pricey and many of these cattle would be £300+ head up like for Like than December!
