Heard the suckled calves at UA Stirling fell away at the end of the sale on Monday. Spoke to a buyer who bought 160 between Ayr and Newton Stewart last week and reckoned he would have been £30-£40 less if he had waited for Stirling this week. It’s happening,Dingwall was hard work yesterday. £100+ back on the week.
There's not enough of them to go round though, thats why they're so expensiveNo way, the ones out of Cheviots are the ones to have but they all have white faces
Have too many people seen the lightThere's not enough of them to go round though, thats why they're so expensive
Steers av 286ppk and hfrs 264ppk, nothing wrong with thatHeard the suckled calves at UA Stirling fell away at the end of the sale on Monday. Spoke to a buyer who bought 160 between Ayr and Newton Stewart last week and reckoned he would have been £30-£40 less if he had waited for Stirling this week.
What did you think of the trade at Hexham today?Got 5 at Hexham today and 3 on Monday. Wont be blowing my brains out that’s a fact
(Mainly cos I have none to blow out)
Mixed. Biggest top end cattle were a dear trade, the rest would be easier, especially the smaller younger ones. What did you think of the trade at Hexham today?
You certainly couldn’t value anything. Some of them young hairy ones looked hellish dear.Mixed. Biggest top end cattle were a dear trade, the rest would be easier, especially the smaller younger ones.
trade at the start would be £70 less untill it got going
Those types don’t interest meYou certainly couldn’t value anything. Some of them young hairy ones looked hellish dear.
Were you sellingYou certainly couldn’t value anything. Some of them young hairy ones looked hellish dear.
Wrong. Most of the calves sold in Portree will be around 250kg and the same buyers pay a premium for them- year in, year out. Those cattle are never going to grow into big cattle though, looking at the report the majority are only 250kgs. People are getting wise as to what cattle will hit the weights and specs for top fat prices and sucklerbred 250kg weanlings arent them. They made what they were worth by the looks to me. Farmers cant expect to keep cows that look like mountain goats and then expect to sell calves out from them for big money.
Well it would seem this year that they have and come back to buy NoE mule, that why they've caught up a bit again price wise, even though theres 000s more of themHave too many people seen the light
I thought some of the really small ones were good money for what they were.Still £600 + for very small 5 month Angus. How did you get on with yours compared to Carlisle yesterday? You certainly couldn’t value anything. Some of them young hairy ones looked hellish dear.
Did you buy the Harlow Bower one at £2000 ?Those types don’t interest me
What do you think I like 2 for thatDid you buy the Harlow Bower one at £2000 ?
You would think that folk would know that they have to be 250 kg on their way to being 650 kgWrong. Most of the calves sold in Portree will be around 250kg and the same buyers pay a premium for them- year in, year out.
To be honest, there won’t be many at all over 250kg at 6months.You would think that folk would know that they have to be 250 kg on their way to being 650 kg
Havent seen a post from you for 3 or 4 years. Where you been?Do you write the report for Gisburn?
Maybe you auctioneer there?
I’ve been selling at Gisburn for 30 years and I’ve never felt the need to big it up,it’s a quarter of the mart it used to be.
They already have yesterdayill put my neck on the block but I can see store cattle easing back…inputs are going through the roof
