Is that the report they post on Facebook?

At Hexham today, suckler heifers and calves took 3k for ought decent, 3.5k for smart outfits. Come home empty.
I was intending going today but work prevailed. Had a mate there went home after dinner said I hadn’t missed anything too dear. Report averages doesn’t look too frightening but I haven’t seen the cattle. 3k outfits don’t agree with my calculator unfortunately. A lot of dispersal cattle there I did think I would have managed a trailer load but I’ve been wrong with that assumption before. I guess they were all plenty of money?

Just watched a few weaners at Carlisle on line.Just finished selling. I wouldnt have liked to be selling today.Two pens of 7 named sire Angus steers and heifers £630 and £500.Little better than calf prices.There seemed to be any amount of decent cattle in the £600s.They must be almost £200/head less than for same size cattle from May/June.
Ha I hope the job picks up a bit. What were decent strong decent fed stores like? I had intended selling some. Maybe I should wait for bps to fall in as it looks like mainly dealers and feeders at the moment buying. A few keen farmers with a pocket full of fivers would help things on a bit!!

So , sheepman tells me the export job to france is dead .

Tell me about it , personally like a bit of lamb , the offerings over the water are disgraceful , even the dog might pull his nose up ;

Eventually found some thing with meat on , but jesus it was difficult , talk about cutting your nose off

It is true the live export to France is no more as there are no Border Control Posts (BCP's) set up in France. Any livestock have to go through these to gain entry into the EU. Without them it is impossible to get a Journey Plan authorised by Defra.

There have been lambs still going dead, but perhaps not in the volume they were. Good demand for the very heavy good shaped lambs still.

So it’s mainly the live trade effected then?

I didn’t hang around either but I wanted spring calvers back in calf and the dispersals didn’t just fit either to young calves or too old cows. Plenty choice in autumn calvers at all prices.

So normally when France won't take them the price drops how come it hasn't now?

Might have been alright for us then we aren’t fussed about when they calve in fact less calving in the spring wouldn’t be a bad idea here. Hell of a struggle buying anything back incalf now. So much time lost for no reason bloody silly. I like them back incalf too but most aren’t now.

The live trade has only been a very small number from England & Wales for some time, and now stopped completely for any live animals whether for breeding or slaughter.
The carcass trade continues but I don't know at what level at the present time, but one would presume it is still strong by the amount the export abattoirs are still paying.

I follow one of the meat transporters on fb. He seems to be very busy and looking for subbys to help out.
