Which brings me back too my original point, give them a good loud bollocking (no swearing, that defeats the object) and go elsewhere for a few weeks. That ought too sharpen the buggers up.
Oh I did I’ll only use them ( Gaerwen) early on in the season, also worked out I was better off per head (£3.40) hauling them to Ruthin that including diesel. But I can’t be bothered doing a 90 mile round trip anymore so I just sell deadweight which is a shame because I’m a big believer in selling live but there’s a limit on how much pee can be taken.

Although I will admit that my technique didn’t make an atom of difference on Mr Williams at Chelford. He was still a stick up arrogant pillock. He had his one big buyer and they arranged the trade before the sale. They made an effort after I first started running sheep into Bentham. So I went back too Chelford for 4/5 weeks then POP, back down again. Took lambs home and into Bentham a fortnight later at 30ppk more. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Some folk just don’t want too try.

It is a shame when this is the case. Grandad would be the same if he didn’t have a pop bottle like me too run stock about or sort out haulage. As you say, you can only take so much!

AHDB (& HCC) purely compile average prices from mart reports. What’s not to like about that? I get an HCC text every night, giving me the sqq average over all markets that day. I’ll take that over any fictitious nonsense from an auctioneer.👍

I’d take their annual predictions of trade with more of a pinch of salt of course.🤐
what if the mart reports the ahdb use to compile are incorrect

I’d end having way more of the b4stards if I had endless ammo to spend on them 🤦🏻‍♂️ Just like every other farmer 🤦🏻‍♂️
Yeah, but you’d be able too employ a couple of top notch shepherds so the actual stressful but wouldn’t be your problem… just ride around in your Range Rover surveying your stock.

🤔🤔🤔 hold the phone…

that’s exactly what @livestock 1 does now… so we really need to find him and steal his crystal ball or magic newspaper. Whichever it is… then we’re laughing at the way!!

Top Tip.

Two good sales tomorrow too, welshpool and knighton. Darlington must have had a crazy sale last year to only just beat it this year on average, i would expect most commercial suckled calf sales this year to be £100 dearer p/head than last year.
I wish you the best of luck with that one,I’ve sold a fair no of calves in two different markets in the last fortnight, stand on in one and up a tenner in the other is what I’ve managed.

I've learnt from experience that if the market phones up wanting lambs or cattle "new buyer coming" or similar its usually best to stay away as the place will have too many and trade will be down!
They'll rarely commit to predicting a trade either, so I go off what other market reports say and my experience

We had this problem at Chelford. Whenever they rang it was a sure fire waste of time going.
I take the view that if they won’t predict a trade I won’t chance lambs with them. They ought too be able too give a value within a £ or 2. Always nice when you exceed expectations by a good lump though! As long as you present a pretty consistent sample that is… got too give the auctioneer a chance! 😂
Last spring Longtown predicted my horned Hogg trade pretty much on the nail. Bar a couple of pens that just went “mental” as John put it. I doubted the prediction every week, and every week I was very happily surprised!
When we’re drawing cull ewes it’s all done too the grades and specs Greg has asked for that week. Again he’s within a couple of quid of phone values too 99% of the time. When he’s out it’s usually me who’s trying too shift something that isn’t growing properly so cutting my losses.
there must be a lot of second class auctioneers up and down! A lot of them seem too be down from here too!

Haha if only!!! Although it’s good to talk!! Off out to sort some sheep with the Hilux!!!
No crystal ball here!!
