These prices need to be maintained and in the case of cattle still need to be increased!!!......... milk powder up £200t today 🤦‍♂️
Volac put the milk powder up £200 across the board for all brands ( ie lamb milk as well ) from 1st November!

I Think some of these company's are trying it on with such high price increases for no good reason.

The £200 ton increase puts nearly another £10 on the cost of rearing a calve!

Some talk that due to TB concerns the powers that be might ban dairy farmers feeding any dumped/ high scc etc milk to calves so hence they will all have to be fed bagged milk powder!

Bulls have been hell of a trade in Thirsk especially big heavy best bulls and good meated black and whites, Clean would be easier for the best cattle mainly due to 1 man switched off today, other cattle would be similar to last week.
Hartshead ? Was quiet today

Had 435p/kg for a 416kg U3L bull off last week. Comes to just over £1800, happy with that but cost of feed and fert fair takes the shine off it.
On the arable price thread the posters on it are talking up the grain price, Wheat ex farm is something like £230 and Barley £200, by the time you haul/ mill it and add some protein/ minerals then by the way it is going a straight grain ration will be £300 ton before long at this rate!

Yep. We’ve decided today too skip a batch of bulls. I’ve a terrible feeling I could have a lot of money laid out for no return. Beef price seems fairly stable where it is but it’s no use when corn and milk powder and flying up. Might miss 2 batches if it still looks that way. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Still got the sucklers and lots of sheep too keep the ball rolling while I let the calf rearing slow down a bit

Will they ban suckler farmers letting the cow feed the calf too?
