If I were 50 plus and i had no one to carry on the job if they came with all that shite I would auctioneer the cattle myself in yard!!!
We keep weighing up putting a cubicle house and outdoor feeding yard in for the cows. Then I read a bit more about slurry/dirty water storage and think all the expenditure they are wanting would buy a LOT of years worth of straw! And you don’t get the EA mithering as much of you can say you are 100% straw bedded

I would consider portable cubicles but not permanent ones. If job goes a bit sour just lift them out maybe

Water companies can afford to pay the right people?
And if they start blaming water companies it becomes everyone who goes to the toilets problem. People don't want to hear that it's their sh!t in the river. They can blame farmers and be seen to be doing something but really it's not nearly enough. Farming has to take some of the blame but it's pointless if sewage is still allowed to be dumped.
I suppose they have to start with farming then eventually the sewage companies can't hide anymore.

cow sh1t is just chewed up grass and others plants, what goes down sewers is full of allsorts of chemicals, I think they should start with them.

They won’t hear that it’s their sh!t in the river though, any more than people relate ag pollution to their need for cheap food.

Sewage is just some problem the nasty water companies cause according to the general public.

Very few people have any conception of how real, practical life works.

3 different folk all brought up cost of keeping sucklers now.all 3 don't know each other an all within £40 of each other.about £850. I think could be higher.
Im hearing this more & more from the suckler boys... We buy Weanlings/young store cattle & run them around & sell them as strong stores. They all say to me it's a better job than keeping a cow for 12 months & they're wat I would say doing the suckler job right to.... I can see more & more people round the weanling ring in the near future = more competition = higher prices = that job won't be very profitable either......

Yes very true one bloke once told me suckler cows are just a form of old fashioned wealth another bloke also told me that its no good being the wealthiest bloke in the room on paper but u can't afford to buy a loaf of bread 😆🙃🙃
Stores are an asset surely if they are paid for. B&B pigs are not an asset.

A lot to do with how the cows are kept though, locking them up in September and feeding them until may like a dairy cow is gonna be expensive! People need to consider where they’re trying to keep these cows, if it doesn’t suit then change the system! You wouldn’t keep a texel ewe at the top of a mountain sucking on a rock an eating heather, but as we know others thrive there! Big hungry cows cost money but you’ll get your name in the paper when they have a fancy calf, to some that’s more important than costs 🤷‍♂️
