Averaged £2400 the incalf heifers i think , up to £3200.A few were moaning about the trade of stores last week all had smaller types
Went to Kirby breeding cattle sale yesterday it was only a recognisance mission for me
Any decent heifers and calves were £2500 plus some up around £3000
Incalf heifers although best sorts were making £2300/£2400 all day long some more some less
Nothing cheap that’s for sure
I bet the old boy really enjoyed himself...very important in life not to forget about the older generation...Well dunWell the old fella has been feeling better again so I took him for a ride out in the wagon too Longtown this morning. Trade for old ewes and lambs looked ridiculous, buying them at finished price before you’ve fed them all summer/autumn. Bought a few texel x shearlings and twins, £86 & £93/life. Then hoggs & lambs started. Only a handful of mules in. Prize pens £250+/outfit bought 2 pens £240 & £216. Bottom end looked very dear £170. Pen of stretchy lean Suffolk mules with single belted lambs, £220 stronger fitter sorts £222-£280 best over £300.
texel crosses bought from £208-£240, very pleased with them. All first cross hoggs. Poor end below £200, best £260-£300
Hogg twins £78-£90/life looking well sold.
Highlights were 2 pedigree Dutch spotted ewe hoggs with pedigree twin ewe lambs at foot. Biggest family made £750/life! Smaller outfit £620.
Grandad had a brilliant day, helped buy buying a wagon load of sheep! I didn’t get bollocked for going too far or missing anything so either he wasn’t paying attention (unlikely) or I managed too get it right!

Got a pen of mule hoggs 128 a life with singles and 2 kerry hill hoggs and singles for the grandkids they bloody wild cant get near them in the field tonightDid you get any? Noticed some were passed out.
Had some in, right mixture that were supposed to go deadweight but were cancelled 3 times. Would have been better dead but none the less there away and did okay for what they were. The absolute tail Enders!Seen the cally had just 520 fat sheep today, buy this time next month they'll have hardly any. What was there was a half decent trade. Going buy report.
Everyone has those kind, glad to see the back of them, there weren't alot in anyway, hoggs fairly drying up, but a fortnight and it will be the 1st of June.Had some in, right mixture that were supposed to go deadweight but were cancelled 3 times. I’ve never been before, not to a beef breeding sale there anyway I thought the incalf heifers were very good sorts maybe too good if you know what I mean. Great cattle. Heifers and calves looked dear to me too. Got dearer as the sale went on.Averaged £2400 the incalf heifers i think , up to £3200.
I thought cows and heifers with calves at foot were as dear as id ever seen them taking quality into account but you will know better than me, im not often at those type sales.
Not many people had been reading the doom and gloom on here anyways, plenty optimism about!

That’s because he wasn’t at Hexham, if he had been they would have been cheap at longtown.Seems like they werent as dear as Hexham.
Very few places in my experience are as dear as Hexham. The quality of stock is exceptional but you do pay for itSeems like they werent as dear as Hexham.

In my experience if you take stock to sell at Hexham you think you have some some good stock until you get there with itVery few places in my experience are as dear as Hexham. The quality of stock is exceptional but you do pay for it
There were plenty of hoggs and singles sold £80-98 today. And I wasn’t buying them. Sheep worth farming were £100 upwardsThere were some hoggs and singles passed out today in the £90s.
Dennis the Menace has had some good ewes and lambs in the last 2 or 3 weeks. The cast ewes he buys that turn out to be already in lamb. Has been in the £70s/life.Very small cheviot types in the £50s. He had a very good and well supported 70th Birthday bash on Saturday night at the mart and raised over £1200 for the Stroke association. In my experience if you take stock to sell at Hexham you think you have some some good stock until you get there with it
