I wouldn't like to be buying young calves at the moment or suckled calves come backend

Will be so few suckled calves about they will be a much better trade than most people expect them to be.

Calve's are selling strongly at the moment all things considered but any bought from now onwards will need hard feed for nearly 12 months before they can be turned out next spring so you would think reality over feed prices would be setting in now but that does not seem to be the case at the moment!

Not impressed and there will be a phone call to the rep and he will not like what i have to say!

I cannot see any reason to jump it again by so much after the recent massive increase given that grain prices have not moved at all since the last rise.

Those boys on the grain thread would have had a meltdown weeks ago if they were now selling grain below the prices they made 12 months ago like what has been/is the case with the sheep job!

I thought they'd all bought for the summer? So shouldn't be anymore rises.surely they can't keep putting it up?

It wont be enough with the way costs are climbing, no way will it be enough!

It needs to go up 16ppk a week untill it hits at least £4.20 ppk liveweight and stays at that level.

I’ve been there on some bad trades and I have some good men help me out. Last lot I sent 20 and I had a good trade a lot of folks were moaning though.

Ive been and good n bad but pish when your £100 down just cos the other ring is still going …..

I think a lot of company's are now taking the pee and just rising prices by a very high % just because they can and not because they need to.

Other rises i could understand due to higher cereal/ haulage/electric etc prices but this latest one is just a pee take and they will end up with no sales and no feed company if they do not get in the real world sharpish!

Sheep will end up being like the chicken and pig job at this rate.

And if the beef price does not rise then the beef job is going to start going the same way as well.

Reality is that the current beef and sheep prices do not cut it with such high and fast rising input price rises!

I was thinking I might leave off milk calves and buy suckler calves come October too fill up… haven’t had too feed them for 6 months then!
