While we are in danger of getting political on here again, here’s something completely different.
This hogg is a total arse. I mean a real twunt. I picked him up a month ago, horn digging into the side of his head. Clipped the horn back, hadn’t broken the skin so that’s good. Looked tatty so sheared him. Discovered he’s a rig. Dosed with levofas and liquithrive and turned out again. Since then he has been the bane of my life. He’s never left our farm but he’s been in every single field, every different bunch of sheep. Stood there with a gormless expression on his face. When he walks his head bobs even though he’s 100% sound on his feet. Every time I went for him he disappeared as soon as he saw me.
Sorting last load of hoggs ready for tomorrow and I remember after tea that I need to catch him! Just over an hour of chasing him around the farm flat out on the quad, vaulting fences, lost him twice but picked him up again, he ran into a gennel. I caught him as he tried to jump over my right shoulder to get away! I’ve shut every gate in the shed and yard that stands between him and freedom… I really hope he’s there in the morning! I don’t care if he only makes £30! Just so long as he’s gone!! To be fair to him, while he’s been rambling he’s put a good covering on so fingers crossed 🤞
Bet he will leave you a good profit!.Had a Welsh stray in couple of weeks ago made 125

Don’t forget to throw a tup in there come November…😂
😭😭 not a bad idea bet he’d hunt the bitch out
Sounds like a few more need to ‘escape’
Iv actually approached them about grazing there “reinstation” ground but they were too worried about sheep not staying in electric fencing, apparently it’s in there plans too stock fence it all into blocks in a few years time then they’ll reassess it

If you get it make sure you keep pumping them with minerals. That quarry reinstatement grass is shite.

@Hfd Cattle u best send me some details cause I'm sick to death of some of these pointless rules & tired of being lied to.....
Go on to main TFF menu scroll down to find BFU section and the details should come up .

There will be updates on progress as we go along .
An initial 'discussion meeting was had by Zoom a couple of weeks back by the 'founding members' where the basics were talked about and how to move forward .
Once we have a clearer way forward , hopefully after tonight , then more details will be going out .
It's very difficult as everyone is very busy and there is a lot going on behind the scenes .

There is no way brexit has been the wrong thing for the sheep trade, what price were lambs just prior to brexit🤔
£60 maybe.....and its not that long since.
It was worth a chance and its a chance thats paid off.

Brexit has had nothing directly to do with the sheep trade.

Firstly for trade apart from increased paper work it has never happened. We continue to comply with all of the EU regulations for sheep meat so we effectively have a free market.
As has been pointed out the weakness of sterling has been a help in increased prices, but is a double edged sword as inputs are much more expensive.
Sheep numbers have declined here and in other parts of the world for different reasons. Drought, ageing farmers, poor profitability, low wool prices, and for a while Swine Flu in China etc. So causing a supply and demand imbalance.

Sheep numbers take time to increase, unlike pigs and it will be 4 or 5 years before we start to see over production that will reduce prices significantly. So if these breeding sheep this Autumn are over £200 they may be £50 culls in 6 years time, so once again we will have depreciation.

The single greatest concern at present are the shenanigans over the Irish trade deal, if the EU get really fed up with our politicians reneging on an international deal then overnight we could see the threatened tariffs being put in place. Then watch what happens to the lamb price!!

We also don't yet have any BCP's (Border Control Posts) in France at our closest points of entry so we are unable to export any stock alive. Ironically we have none on this side of the Channel either so there are no checks on imports!!
