I seen at guy from Aberdeen, who says he sell 1000 tups a year had some at bethham, what were they like and were they big money. Only 990 to go.
All home bred mix of pure bred and crossbred or hybrid I think they would call them. Top of the tree with their Charolais make a really good job of their sheep i think I’ve seen him posting on here.

Very much doubt anyone breeds 1000 rams themselves...

At a guess you'd need 1600-1700 pure ewes to get 2000 lambs to get that 1000 tups - that's without counting deaths or absolute Muppets you wouldn't want to sell

If they were Texels or Beltexes You'd need to be f**kong good with the needle and thread because the vet bill on C-cuts could be scarier than most folks fert bill

They'll be hoovering up the runts at Lanark and Stirlings end of season sales bonanzas
They will be breeding 1000 tups on the the farm, think they now over 3200 ewes.

They have regular customers for them and sales at home for what I gather

Understandable to 'top up' on your homebreds to guarantee consistent numbers each year for your customer base... again that's different to buying them simply to prospective make money

Knew Logie Durno sold a lot of rams, but didn't think they were breeding as many as 1000

As someone said earlier, must be a whure of a rams die each year to sustain the numbers sold each year (that goes for all breeds/ breeders - not knocking Logie Durno!)

The Logie Dunro tups were phenomenal animals. Length, width, bone. Everything in the right place. Pretty sure nothing was below £1k in their pen but I wouldn’t swear to it. There were some hellish fat overfed tups £800-£1100. Not my scene at all, I bought of two regulars that I’ve bought off before, they do feed them but are by no means stuffed. Their tups have always gone on and grown out well for me.

Right, top end of EVERY breed today were 800-1400, good commercials 600-800
Average commercials 500-600
Sort of alright commercials 450-500
Sub 450 you really would have to be short of a tup.
only a couple of bids diffence between a good tup and average really. Have seen the gap much wider in the past. Got to 950 several times then bottled it. Can’t bring myself to give £1k for a commercial tup. 1@800
1@600
1@580
2@550
The cheaper 4 all came from a lad who doesn’t stuff them. So they never look as huge or fancy as the competition. But they never stop growing when they land home and this time next year are big strong lads.
