Tried it last year, fat lamb trade no better so not worth the fuel... but it is the place (within reason) to go for stores.

Fats would be better at Carlisle but I've yet to try it

Longtowns as good as any for fats, the good sheep make the Carlisle average better. Early lambs maybe better at Carlisle up until mid June. Just what I've found.

No . Went in to have a look ..treated the OH to a day out in Mkt ...bought her a coffee!

Good finishing cattle were strong money but left halfway through so assume trade held up they way they were fighting for them .
Both Gregg and Matthew in good form ! Got the sale going really well .

I like to pay for mule gimmer lambs what I got for my fat in august. Last week was £108. After all those mule lambs don’t cost much to produce, run 2000 of them on the fell and let some bfl tups out to find them in December. Run them in the day before the sale off there 1800 foot fell where all they have eaten was what they could pull and draft out the gimmer lambs and haul into market. Unless someone’s been lieing to me.

Please don’t take this the wrong way… a lot of those lambs looked nearly the same size as quite a lot of shearlings

plus those early SM sales always look well supported by the locals? Don’t see the southern buyers nailing in?

AND just to push the button… these are Scotch Mules, not those narrow greyhound type NoE ones…

Heifers ave £2.95 overall, up to £2220
Mine ave £3.07 600kg
