Sedge today.

Store cattle : A super entry of 750 head which were a mixed quality entry sold to a much easier trade for all types except for named angus cattle which again were trading to some quite incredible prices for the age/size/grade of cattle, Fri steers of which many were entered sold to pre xmas levels, however some SUPERB well breed/ farmed lim suckler heifers sold to a an impressive £1190 head with many other lots from the same farm to £1140/1150 etc etc, these cattle are a real CREDIT to their seller and many more cattle of this quality are badly needed.

Stirks, a very poor entry numbers wise and of a mixed quality sold to an INCREDIBLE trade and looked EXCEPTIONALLY dear compared to the store cattle ring, prices of note were some proper BF steers to £495 head and some SUPERB Lim x small but E/U grade suckler breed steers to £1030/1040 etc etc, Smaller suckler bred steers of any breed found bids from all sides of the ringside.

The difference between cattle that have been well fed over the winter months and the ones that have not been was very evident today in both condition and prices achieved.

How big for £65? Might as well get England to buy them out of longtown and truck them down to the south west. Will be £10-£15 head cheaper.

Didn't see them but a normal entry would be a mix of good contx cross lambs and many small hill lambs off Dartmoor.

Really small lambs ( think 25/30 kilos ) were making £60 at sedge today and they were scruffy/ poorly bred lambs!

Went to St Boswells today to cash the empty ewes. Caught about 45 minutes of them selling the prime hoggs. The run I saw would have averaged under £1.50/kg. Four main buyers in attendance. Interesting to read the mart report having been on the spot.

Only saw a few ewes sold before mine went through. Easycares at £49 and £41. Also got shot of a mental Hampshire tup for £67. Reasonably satisfied. Felt that being there in person made a difference, in contrast to the kicking I got last time when I just dropped them off.
