Dovecote Park now paying £4-35 for name sire Hereford and £4-50 for Angus, a little competition is a wonderful thing. Organic now £4-90, British beef, £3-90.
As a hereford producer I'm pretty happy with that at the moment, and as far as I can see the only way is up in the immediate future.

Thrapston today, 23 hoggs av 52.5kg at 145.64p/kg, a little disappointed but that average was spoilt by some Wiltshire hoggs that the buyers didn't like, the good suffolks made £90each at 58kg,

oh well that all last years lambs gone.

News on the ground is some of the big boys are changing to lambs only and to many under finished grass hogs are being dumped on the market down south, good meaty hoggs of the right spec are still good to sell but £10/20 down on a couple of weeks ago but about the same as a month ago so we cant grumble to much after the disadter of last summer and autumn and winter :(

Roll on the sunshine there will bea lot less lambs on the ground this year so we will have to wait and see if the Kiwis hold there nerve and ask for more cash which wil;l help sustain our trade.

Heres Hoping

Heard from the well known Dunbia buyer in the area, that if we can get through this spring and get the lambs finished, sheep trade will be good this autumn. Mind you with all the costs this winter, I am struggling to know what a good trade is..........:banghead:

Well trade was patchy but good stuff was good to sell, mine were thus

51kg £92
43.5kg £90
40kg £80
38kg £73.5

Considering these r the tail enders and i only now have the lame and the injured (best hogg knocked its horn off and taken bad ways) left to patch up and the last draw will be in a couple of weeks.
