518 cull cows in carlise today

How many do they normally get?

Talking about it seems a hell of a lot of farmers are either quitting this year or planning to quit in the next 12 months.

Prime cattle a touch stronger trade today.

Prime lamb numbers down by 25% across SW markets today and trade is stand on to last week around the £1.65/7pk average.

300-400 usually takes them in.They will have been selling late by the time they got to the clean hfrs and steers after the bulls.Any TBs at the end, would have been a hellish long wait for them.

perhaps a lot of strong stores are going straight to kill....hence fall in price?

They wont lambs very well covered now.

Very few that I have seen in the store pens would be good enough to kill ( thou a few pens are )

Price difference between good store lambs and prime lambs is about £4/5 head.

No sense at all in the store lamb price!

Glad Ive been taking my late lambs to abattoir for direct sales recently, took in a dozen this morning that will average about 42kg and the equivalent of £95 in the live market after killing, cutting and delivery if I had sold them live.

Keeps my average up nicely this time of year.
