@jendan were you at Hexham on Friday? Heard today some store lambs made £124 :scratchhead:
No,i didnt get in.I saw it in the papers, just said they were exceptional good lambs, thats all i know.Sometimes at Hexham later in the season, some of the tup breeders sell some in the store, their tup lambs they think are not good enough for breeding. Some folk take a punt on these, and bring them out as shearlings.Dont know if these were some.

Well I know who the last loser on them and he certainly wouldn't need tups

Think rugby was 179av top 203 if I remember the text correctly. Store cattle to 1500!! Always looks good to post that on a text, but obviously will be a beast already fit to kill or something like that, but even then a fair whack

How many do they normally get?

Talking about it seems a hell of a lot of farmers are either quitting this year or planning to quit in the next 12 months.

Prime cattle a touch stronger trade today.

Prime lamb numbers down by 25% across SW markets today and trade is stand on to last week around the £1.65/7pk average.
Yes TB and the like is getting a lot down... suckler stirk producers getting TB as someone I know has will cost 000s

Spoke to someone today who said it took a 48kg lamb weighed on the farm to get a 21kg carcass. So at auction that lamb would weigh in at 45kg so £75 to £80. Sent dead weight the same lamb at 21kg would be £82 if grading at the spec required and less taken off. Guess you win some and lose some but as folk say it's a forum do !

Combination of things like you say, TB, having to pay so much out for the culls, the weather has really put a lot of people under massive strain this year, low returns for the time/ money invested is just a few of the things.

Been many years since there has been so many farm sales around the SW as there is for this month, two on Sat in Somerset alone!

There was a hell of a lot of beef bred cows in carlise today probably half of them. Looks like many people are housing them early this year and selling culls now instead of October/November

It seems fairly obvious.Ive noticed one or two of mine just starting to lose a little bit of condition off grass. With the price decent, many folks will be cashing in before having to feed cake.
