we`ll put these abbatoirs outa business if we dont support them tho and then who`ll take our lambs?!

Im not complaining about the prices, long may they last.

However, its the small and medium sized abattoirs that will call it a day first. They are the ones that the marts rely upon and its the marts, that dictate the deadweight price. Once they are gone they are gone.

Then we will have 2 sisters, Woodheads, Dunbia and ABP dictate the price, spec and 30/60 day payment terms to us.

Obviously cracking lambs and great trade, must but can I ask why you keep lambs to such high weights? Genuine question. I’m
Guessing most go to butchers.

It begs the question... "what does the market actually want???

I killed plenty in dec / jan "in spec" hoggs.... some could fairly have put on more kgs if kept till now.. and been £20 better off...

its grand to see lads getting a decent turn at them just now....

Because I lamb in April and always try to catch a better trade into the new year, obviously last year it didn’t happen till April but I was still selling then. My lambs don’t get much hard feed and any that I sell in April will of only had what they can pull.
I just cant bring myself to draw any lambs under 45 kilos unless I’m out of time....everyone has their own farming style
