An old dealer not with us any more always told us you ought to send your cattle sooner I said sure but I want the same money, he declined so I carried on worrying about myself and not everyone else:)
There's flec steers at 20 months that are near finished so until you see the cattle it's always hard to tell.

This x 1000 times, I have seen your cattle sold @dinderleat, they are very well bred/ reared and make good money rightly so, imo if it aint broke don't fix it so carry on as you are(y)

I'm not saying you are wrong, I just don't understand your system. Are the cattle outside now? Isn't straw very dear down there? I just know that of my dealer brought me 27m steers I wouldn't be happy, which is why he doesn't.

Why nothing finishes quicker than an auld bullock or heifer, just wouldn’t of been financially beneficial to the previous owner unless they had ‘free grass’

Those cattle dinderleat are selling are fit to kill.

Everyone likes different cattle/ ages of cattle etc thus why there is always a market for every animal, your buyer buys some Fri steers sometimes which to be frank are absolute rubbish even for Fri steers yet he clearly has buyers for them and that is all that matters, just because a certain animal doesn't suit your system it doesn't mean it doesn't suit someone's else's system.

Unless I can sell it FA then I don't want it. OTM are a waste of time, if they aren't fit by 30m then they probably aren't going to get fat.

The grass is never free, especially when there is an opportunity cost.

I didn’t mean let them go over 30 month but if you can buy 25/26 months old fit bullocks then they’ll finish in a crack

Yes, they'd have to be the right price. I'd still rather buy potential than trouble. The old man certainly knew how to find a bargain, and many of them ended up here. Cheap cattle don't always end up cheap though.

Cattle were out at grass all summer from 1st April till mid November with a kg of rolled wheat. They are on cubicles with mats so used a bit of straw but hardly anything plus they are clean as a whistle. Been on 50:50 maize and grass + 3 kg of wheat. We tested some last autum and these would of been the smallest of them so probably made 650 ish so we kept them, they're hopefully worth £1100 and would be on the hook. So in. 4 months £450 difference

Slightly off topic but is 'the old man' still with us or taking it easier?

Some big increases in the hogget prices today. Bearing in mind Easter and hanging time do you think prices will drop back next week? I’m struggling for time to take any this week but I’m wondering if I should find the time

Anybody care to estimate where these extreme sheep prices are heading other than down and when?

Can't see prices going down in the near future, the numbers just aren't there. Which is a good thing.

However, we will see some meat companies go bang soon if there isn't a correction. Instead of the rise being gradual its just peaked at once, making the increases hard to pass on to the customer.
