Although I’m sure it was unintentional, your post illustrates the problem we have perfectly. You spent more cash on the cheap consumables that you probably could have done without and bought some of the cheapest convenience protein you could get. And you a farmer to boot. You could probably have picked up a nice sirloin steak for dinner and gone home with more cash in your pocket.

You are dead right! I don't know of you saw the chat on Sunday. I normally buy all our meat from the various local butchers our lambs go to. On Sunday I did fancy blowing the cobwebs off the bbq but had nothing in. Got some Scottish lamb chops and looked up the UK code and it came up as woodheads (Morrisons) so I was a bit curious as to what was going on. The chops were lovely, if I have been told they were from our village butcher I wouldn't have been suspicious. A bit smaller maybe but good quality. If they were mine I would have been happy to have the farm name on like the tatties. I haven't tried the tools yet but the pop up shelter was a good buy. Trip to the beach this Sunday. Lamb chops on the bbq and a wee bothy for the wife on her kindle. Chicken was nice too but no word of origin. Maybe best no knowing

4 months of cracking trade and were feeling sorry for poor Tesco and Joe public having to take a few quid out their holiday funds? I have no doubt that they will somehow have us squeezed back to break even prices quick enough so let’s all sit tight and make them work to get our lamb for as long as we can for as much as we can.

I know sheep farmers fortunately have short memories, but I can only make this good trade having been around for 3 months!!
February was not a great price.

Spoke to a lamb finisher the other night,he said he sold £65 bought lambs for £78 and £19 bought lambs for £125,I thought it summed up last winters trade perfectly.

Springers and hoggs down today

My hoggs weren’t quite as good, tail Enders, few pets ect ect...local repeat butcher bought first 2 pens, last 2 pens had teeth
That’s me all done till singles later in the summer...it’s been a pleasure to sell lambs this year and we’ve had a good touch...good luck to everyone else
