About what??

The top post you quoted refers to store cattle and the second post refers to prime cattle.
Chatting to a few at Market yesterday something that became very evident is a shortage of cash...some farmers this spring have had a real kicking,one guy sold a heap of ewes last week that lost lambs in the wet cold weather in Mar and April...fed them etc etc and now no income going forward this wont really show until next year when he has no lambs to sell,told be a feed rep that some of the outstanding feed bills would make my eyes water,some were still feeding ewes in late April .

Yes totally agree saw 2 cattle troughs that you can buy new for 115 each make 120 plus all the add ons this last week....I think most think it a competion to see who can win....but I really do think that for some cash is really tight...
I went to buy a pto rolling mill last year at a farm sale...it was about 8 years old..I priced a new one before I went....it started where I wanted it to end! It made £200 less than a new one! Spoke to the under bidder and asked him if he knew what they cost new...he said he hadn’t a clue but this was local :banghead:
Safe to say I just ordered a new one when I got back

I was always baffled by prices at farm or sales till i asked someone why he paid so much for something. There was no VAT on the sale and he wasnt VAT registered so a nearly new lamb creep feeder for £20 less than new price was saving a bit when he added 20% to it. I know thats not always the case but does explain some of it sometimes.

You’d have to be mad not being vat registered farming

2 other good reasons;

The older metal products are a lot heavier gauge than anything new
and,
I might prefer to give my neighbour full value than just give it to a merchant.

Trade is back in Exeter this morning. These of mine at 41.2kg made £105 which was good compared to similar weights.

Largest ever entry of suck lambs in the History of Exeter livestock centre were penned up in the market today @ just under 2700 head...

Sedgemoor had 1400 suck lambs in as well so combined the two markets alone had over 4000 suck lambs in the prime pens today.

Trade at both markets was down about 20pk to level out around 2.33pk.

They had NSL penned up outside in the cull lines though I’m surprised it was record entry. Mind you I left as soon as mine went under the hammer.
