It’s not getting any better for the gimmers then. £114 is no where near enough after you have bought them, haulage to and from market, feed, grass keep, dead stock, meds and then commission at the end!!

Mule ewe lambs are far to expensive, far better buying gimmer ortwo/three crop ewes , they not crazy money this year as more folk are selling ewes than buying them me thinks. I bet in the next couple of months you could buy good ewes for 80/90 pounds. I'm going to wait and buy in lamb ewes in fed/March, l bet you will be able to buy ewes with twins for 100/115 this spring.

They could be......... On the other hand if the winter is mild, the fat lamb trade holds up,and we get some kind of deal with brexit that makes it still worthwhile for our lamb to go to France, then confidence will return and they could go through the roof.

Or be buying in other folks problem bangers. Know what I’d rather buy in.

Iv bought aged ewes for year as longs you jag them for abortion and heptavac p , they've always gone ok , buying fancy browned faced ewe lambs for 100 a head is crazy , even if you tup them, half a yeld , any with twin can't rear them and a few might be ok. At least 2 crop ewes know what they are doing. Everyone has there own ideals.

After buying quite a few ewes to build up numbers the last couple years, gimmers work best for us. Bought in Ewes have been nothing but a pain compared to gimmers who have lambed really well. This year half our flock were gimmers and everyone said we were crazy but again they lambed really well with only a handful down the road. It’ll be a problem in 4-5 yrs unless we keep building up or cull out slowly. The money you’re mentioning is around the same as we’ve been paying with hopefully 5-6 years out of them and known status. Horses for course as you say though.
Dingwall breeding sheep were what can only be described as selective this week. Any guesses for lamb the next few weeks, bottomed out yet?
