I'm glad I'm not the only one that has found Cirencester to be a pee take recently! I had some very well fleshed 58kgs just before Christmas go for £80. At Ashford a few days later I reckon they would have gone for £110+

Cirencester must be one of the worst markets for lambs. Plus they take off 4kg. I had some lambs in a couple of years ago that couldn’t get to £70, so I took them home and put them dead weight and they made £78. I live a couple of miles away and haven’t sold lambs in Cirencester for two years.

Have you been to ashford?
Yes, between Christmas and New Year. Very impressed. Shame it's so far away. I will sell my mob of lambs currently on roots there.
I usually sell my home bred lambs at Salisbury which is just about ok but not the best- at least the auctioneer always asks if you are happy to sell them and if not you can take them home. There's usually 4-6 buyers for finished lambs there. A few more for stores.

Spoke to a local sheep farmer last week who called it Terry’s collection centre

It’s certainly a buyers market...

Where do you get your Half Breds from?
I think they came from St Boswells originally. I bought them as shearlings off a local chap who goes up there for running lambs every year.
That's the last of them gone now - they've lasted well 'cos dad was with me when I bought them, well before he died, and he's been dead eight years now.

I used to go with my father to St Boswells to buy some, but hes been gone 11 years now.Half Breds are getting less and less, but i still think they are great sheep.Just cant afford them anymore, even running lambs were still £100+ last September. So just had to make do with some mule runners at £60,and gimmers at £88.Nice sizey sheep.
