I was talking to the two lads that bring them on Thursday they weren’t over the moon with the prices for heavy best end ewes that’s what they had but weren’t complaining too much. They’ve been doing it a long time now they did tell me years ago what it cost to bring a decker over and it’s not cheap. They aren’t daft that’s for sure they will do their sums

First text I’ve had in a while, so couldn’t tell you. I thought the ewes look good price. You’d blackies would be ideal for what they want. If you can feel flesh on the tail, it’s too fat I’m told.

4H is something like £1/kg less?
And they don't have to be that fat to be a 4H

No waiting lists in the livestock markets. Sell live to thrive

Can’t see that will be a big help. Chillers full and line space full, that will reflect in the market price. Never been a seller of Fatstock in the market, haven’t the time to go.
Did use to use the video auctions when they first came out and quite liked that system where the cattle stayed on the farm so if you didn’t like the price they weren’t sold and nothing lost.
I’m one of those people who never use markets ....... but I’m happy to defend your right to.

Each to there own ,its handy if you have something about to go over age but you do have to take the trade on the day.

They were good plenty of outfits over £2000 one was £2900 a lot around £1800 a lot of second calvers or young cows. Most had very good calves with them. Any older ones looked dearer my mate wanted some old cows to split but too dear for that job. A Welch dealer bought most of them a lot around the £1800 plus looked dear at the time but in reflection they were cheap on the day. Bull was £4300 Clarragh Franco sire same as one of our stock bulls 8 years old still mobile good bull. Progeny sold him seen before went to same man. He landed over when I was trying to buy heifers and calves later and was laughing as the trade went up. Showed me the sheet seemed content what he had bought. He had 20 out of the previous sale I was at. The lad selling them seemed pleased with the trade. Why were they there? One of the lots of stock cows were there due to loss of rented ground can’t remember which one

Hahaha noooo it had one hell of a shaped calf with it. One in a million. Had extreme double muscle and extraordinary width too. It was telephone bid that got it. It was a funny day really. The best end of outfits were no dearer than normal. The others were well up.

Seems like presenting sheep in the live ring may become more unpopular if they keep on insisting that they need more fat cover on their backs when it isn’t really required. There’s a marked difference between a deadweight spec sheep and what’s expected in the live ring.

The middle man takes to much they always have really

I read a few months ago that supermarket share of final price had gone up by 14% in last year or two. They and the processors will need to watch or they simply won't have significant volumes of British red meat.

Is that because they are charging too much or paying too little or both
